All my dreams come true
When I played the original in 1997 my life was changed forever. Final Fantasy 7 defined my life as a gamer, it took me from playing games like Tomb Raider and Porsche Challenge on the PS1 into an avid lover of RPG. Over the years I’ve completed all the main FF series from 7 through to 15 (part way through 15) along with any sequels... I am a seasoned FF player. It then led me into the delights of the Fallout series amongst others. This was a game that led me to have my PlayStation 1 confiscated because I spend so much time on FF7 that I failed my GCSE mock exams as I was playing it too much (only to find my dad secretly playing it when I wasn’t allowed). For many of us FF7 was and still is life and I like so many have been dreaming of a remake for 23 long years! So down to my thoughts on the remake... Firstly it’s a beautiful game. Watching that opening sequence in full cinematic glory literally made me cry. The visuals whether they are in FMV or gameplay are stunning. The original games characters were pretty much expressionless and now suddenly you see every twitch of an eyebrow and every subtle expression change. It’s incredible. I was expecting the characters to exactly resemble their design from the FF7 Advent Children movie but some of them differ slightly, Tifa for example is facially more anime looking. Secondly gameplay... I am 4.5 hours in. While I had my reservations on a change in battle system I think the game is better for it. The original was all turn based whereas the remake is similar to FF15. I like it. For me I don’t think I would be able to play turn based games anymore, I’m too used to RPG’s like fallout and now I favour action battles over turn based. You can use menus to select different actions which is reminiscent of the earlier battle system, which I like, it makes it still feel like FF7 but with more control. Also it’s worth adding that you can either take full control of the other characters in the party like Tifa or Barret or you can just give them commands. I prefer to play as Cloud as much as possible so favour the command system. Story... so it’s hard to comment at this point because they have drawn out the story to make a longer game, this is fine from what I’ve seen so far the story seems spot on. The first reactor mission is virtually identical to the original game with A few add ins. I’m not going to spoil the game for anyone by commenting further but certain elements that creep in later in the game have been brought forward to bring in more of Clouds narrative which would have been needed given how square Enix have decided to present the game. The bit I don’t like... I didn’t research the remake simply because I’ve been waiting so long for this it was hard reading how it kept getting pushed back and how square Enix wanted to do other things despite the outcry for this game. So I didn’t know it would be split into more than one instalment (I’ve read it will be at least 3 parts). I don’t feel that this should have been done in this way and I feel the makers are cashing in on this much beloved game and characters. Apparently FF7 remake takes around 40 hours to complete and is 5 hours worth of the original game. There is no reason the entire game couldn’t have been made in one go. To compare with Fallout 4 which is 300+ hours gameplay this isn’t really acceptable. I feel like Square Enix are exploiting the fans to make as much money as possible. I had to buy a PS4 especially for this as I’m an Xbox user and I’m guessing I’ll be having to buy a PS5 as well. Yes this game will be on Xbox in a years time but I can’t wait that long, I tried, but ended up lasting 1 whole day. This I am not happy with at all. That said it doesn’t detract from the fact what has been made is absurdly amazing. Also where is the battle victory song??? In summary this is a great game and I would recommend it to anyone whether they played the original or not. If you haven’t played the 1997 release I would recommend do so first. This is because Final Fantasy 7 the Remake isn’t just a remake I would say it’s a reboot as well. I say this because yea all the elements of the original are all there you have a lot of added content as well to pad the game out. If you are considering this I would say... just buy it!

The best final fantasy yet!! In gaming history!!
FF7 remake has surpassed the expection of an incredible game which has surpassed the original FF7 hands down with a mass of sales for atmosphere and pure gameplay improvements a vast improvement in comparison to the Original PS1 game which had some major flaws due to it being turn based and with the outdated graphics on the PS1 and limited animations and movements due to the tanky controls not to mention the annoying disc changes (3 discs.) Remake has set the bar very high it's a fantastic remake and they've improved upon it with action style of combat Instead of turn based combat but the Atb gauge is still present which keeps it somewhat true to the orignal, but it's good that there are changes to combat system which was needed in present modern day remake of this game, why make a turn based game with a small following of fans and mixed reviews when you can make an action Rpg that sells and generates more fans and sells high sales which is what has been done here and was really needed. It's a pity Sega didn't choose the same direction for shenmue and give it a full remake rather then the remasters with bad audio that had not been remastered or tweaked, final fantasy 7 remake is an incredible retelling of the original game with a different outcome to certain events and fates which I won't spoil for any one who haven't played it so if anyone does still enjoy the original or remaster they can still play it. That's what makes the remake all the better, The best FF game in history is not an understatement in this rating it's totally true. Let's hope that the 2nd and final chapter 3 will be just as good if not better. This will be a 3disc game like the original but much much better.

All these years later
Played the original as a kid and to this day its still the best game I've ever played. To say I was excited for this is an understatement. It arrived this morning the day before release so I was like a child on Christmas morning exactly like when I first played the original on PS1. The first thing I noticed is how incredible the soundtrack is. Its all the original music but it just sounds brilliantly nostalgic. The visuals are also incredible. This games brings to life characters that only lived in block form previously. All of a sudden its like they've become real. The gameplay is vastly different than the original. You can pick classic mode which I have been told plays more like a turn based game but this puts the game on easy difficultly which I didn't want. The last thing I want is to wait 20 years for a game and then to just rush through on easy. So far the combat is a little button bashy with only the one boss making me use my brain. Its still fun don't get me wrong but I'm hoping as the game goes on just bashing square becomes less effective. The story is the same as the original but plays at a different pace. You are introduced to a certain character here much sooner than in the original. I'm glad its slightly different as wheres the fun in knowing whats at every turn. So far this game lives up to the hype and my lofty expectations. I cannot wait to experience more of it and if it continues like it has started then its going to be a fun ride.
