Tried out a few low cost Infrared Thermometers. They all have the same basic design and suffer the same accuracy problem - poor ambient reference sensor causing error at different ambient (room) temperature and lags when the room temperature change. This one is only 2 degrees off at 82F (while a more expensive one is reading 4 degrees off). Close enough for kitchen work. YMWV

Accurate Enough for Everyday Use, Surprisingly Handy for the Price I picked this up mainly as a quick, grab-and-go temperature checker for random tasks around the house and garage, and it’s turned out to be one of those tools you end up using more than expected. For under ten bucks, it’s honestly a solid little device. What I like most is how easy it is to use. Pop in the batteries, point, pull the trigger, and you get an instant reading. The backlit display is clear and easy to read, even in lower light. I’ve used it for checking pan temps while cooking, verifying oven heat, spotting hot spots on my grill, and even checking AC vent output. It’s also useful for quick diagnostics—like identifying heat leaks or uneven temperatures in different areas. The non-contact aspect is a big plus. You don’t have to touch anything hot, which makes it safer and more convenient, especially for things like cast iron, pizza stones, or engine components. The 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio is decent for this price range and works well as long as you’re mindful of distance. A few things to keep in mind. Accuracy is generally good for everyday use, but it’s not lab-grade. I noticed small variations depending on surface type and distance, which is expected with infrared thermometers. Also, the laser aiming isn’t perfectly aligned—it gives you a general idea, but not pinpoint precision. You’ll get better results aiming steadily and keeping a consistent distance. Another important note: this measures surface temperature only, not internal temperature. So it’s not a replacement for a probe thermometer when cooking meats. Overall, for the price, it’s hard to complain. It’s lightweight, simple, and versatile—exactly what you want in a tool like this. Bottom line: A very affordable, easy-to-use infrared thermometer that’s great for quick surface temp checks—just don’t expect precision-level accuracy.

Update 4/29/2026 I have been using it to measure the temperature in my refrigerator and freezer and it works great. I have been using it on a regular basis to check the heat temperature coming out of all my vents, I love it. I was not sure what to expect from a temperature reading unit that is low priced. I am pleasantly happy with how easy it works and more so how accurate it is in comparing it to the various thermostats in my home. It is almost spot on with everyone of them and it will help to find drafts coming in during the cold winters here in Frazier Park. I highly recommend buying it as you will be happy too.

Purchased "Used - Mint" and the batteries were missing... The dollar I saved was spent on batteries... you get what you pay for I suppose. Seems to work as it should, not sure of the accuracy just yet.
