Having read the reviews, I knew the break-in period might be tough and it was. The shoe portion of the boot was perfect, even a bit roomy, right away, but the top of the boot was quite snug and stiff. I planned a long, slow getting used to them time but still could only wear them for 3-4 hours once a week with thin socks. Granted I do not have skinny calves, but this was more than any other boot in my experience. After a month or so of that, I was able to progress to thicker socks, just in time for cooler Fall weather, and now can wear my thick knee-high cold weather socks without discomfort. Since then these boots have been amazing! They are quite warm and have great traction. I've found them to be wonderfully waterproof - I've worn them in heavy NYC downpours and post-snow commuting in slushy crosswalks. The color has deepened with exposure to water, but I love the dark brown they have become. The only other negatives are relative to what I was accustomed to in my other shoes. I tend to wear light-weight sneakers with fairly pliable soles. These boots are substantial, significantly heavier than I'm used to and the heel feels very squared off in that I didn't roll smoothly from heel strike onto full weight/flat foot when walking, so it took a bit for me to get used to. I think that is my not being used to wearing boots, not a fault of the boot design. Now I really love these and look forward to wearing them for some time to come!

Beautiful boots. Beautiful leather. But man this is the hardest time I’ve had breaking in a new pair of shoes. Walking a mile in them is rough even with numerous bandaids on my heels. It gets better later in the day after the heat from my desk space heater has warmed the leather some. But I’ve worn them about 5x now and haven’t had them mold to my feet yet.
