We wanted a travel chess at for my daughter. She loves to play with her dad but wanted something compact that we could carry around with us. The case is beautiful, has a velvet spot for each chess piece. The magnetic board is super convenient and makes it a lot easier to keep all the pieces. If they have to stop in the middle of a game we don’t have to worry about the pieces moving around. It’s perfect for kids who might not be able to keep things together.

This chess set is a basic set for casual players, the pieces are wood, carved well enough to tell what they are, and aren’t weighted at all. The pieces to have magnets in the base to keep them in place on the board. The set includes extra queen pieces. The board folds in half and doubles as a storage box with foam inserts that hold the pieces. The quality of the board is also decent enough, but definitely not what I would consider premium. It has a wood veneer adhered to a particle board substrate and the seam is exposed along the edges. The fit and finish are acceptable, but nothing premium. There are no letters or numbers on the board, so that may be a deal-breaker for serious students of the game. The maker included a velvet cloth pouch for the board, which is nice to protecting the set in storage. There is also a very basic rule book.Overall, I’m content with the set, but it’s not quite as nice as I expected for the price. It should do fine for playing with my kiddos around the house and last for many years as long as we don’t abuse it.

I am 100% pleased

I purchased this as a gift for my 10-year old grandson who loves to play chess. I was impressed by the packaging and the ornate gift box. The inside lid of the gift box has an interesting history of the company that makes these sets, but it is written in fairly "broken" English, so I probably will not include the box in the gift even though it is quite attractive. (That's the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.) The set seems to be well made. The magnetism is strong enough to hold the pieces without being so powerful that they "snap" into place. The board is attractive; hinges and clasps appear to be well constructed, but it hasn't had any real use yet. The fact it has the extra queens is a plus since my grandson loves the rule that a pawn can become a queen. The special fabric carrying case is a nice touch that makes the set look more expensive. Overall, I think it is an excellent buy.

This is amazing at this price! This is a GREAT board for the price, inside the board has places for all of the pieces so they aren't rolling around. For this price, there has been a lot of detail put into this set, way more than I expected. I honestly can't believe how nice this set is, AND, they even put a nice piece of literature saying if anything gets damaged for ANY reason in the next 24 months, they'll either sent a new board/piece or reimburse you for the entire purchase, wow! I don't see myself needing that "warranty", but either way, sure is a great insurance policy if need be. If you are contemplating purchasing, stop, this is a great Chess Set at a great price!

This chessboard was a lot better quality than I expected, especially for the inexpensive price that it is selling for. The magnets aren't too strong, but for the price you pay, your really can't complain.

Ordered this a few months ago as a smaller option to the giant chess board our family usually plays with. We can take it on trips or just use it somewhere else in the house. The board is very nice and the magnetic pieces are fantastic. Love that it comes with two queens per color.The latch on ours was a bit wonky, and since we use this for travel sometimes, I contacted the seller, including a photo of the issue, and they very quickly and graciously sent us another one that closes perfectly.If you're looking for a nice, small, potentially travel-worth chess set, I can highly recommend!
