How do I get a replacement key?

I don't know, but i have two in the same house installed and I could always send the person the extra key i have. Let them know. And I will make sure the same key fits both of my units which I am sure it does.

Can it be closed without having to lock it? I don't want to have to keep track of a key.

If you lock it then you need the key to open it. But don't waist your money. This item destroys the paper towel when pulling out even if pulling out with care! Junk

What size c fold paper towel will it hold

Just normal size C fold paper towels. When reordering I never worry about the width or length of the towel. There is plenty of space for longer or wider towels, but every time I reorder towels they fit.

Has anyone figured out a temporary solution to get this NOT to tear the paper? What a horrible product!

I can't really offer a solution but perhaps a few things that might mitigate the problem a bit. (Full disclosure, I bought a different dispenser and tossed this one in the attic). A couple things helped, 1) don't fill the dispenser, go about half way. 2) Before you put the towels in, fan them a bit to loosen them up. By doing this, you might get fewer rips and tears and paper towel shrapnel. In the end though, I bought a table top model that is spring loaded and I'm much happier.
