Anti-Vortex Main Drain Suction Cover Plate For In-Ground Swimming Pools

My cover fits on top of the mounting plate at the bottom of the pool, so perfect total width wasn't important for me, but it may be for you.The elongated holes measured 7 3/4 inches on center.The normal holes measured 6 inches on center.The total width of the cover is 7 11/16thsThe tape measure was not perfectly aligned for the top view (4th picture), sorry about that.Here is the bag of screws that came with the cover. My screws were like the ones in the upper right corner of the bag but they were just a little short and were too coarse of threads. I needed 8-32 narrow thread and 3/4 inch long. My old plate was the totally flat type (which is illegal now) so my new screws needed to be longer. If you are going to buy screws make sure you get stainless and buy a couple of extra, because I was holding my daughter upside down in 8 feet of water and it's very easy to lose track of one or two, even though she did not lose any. This was to replace a cover that was broke, so now I'm ordering another one (while they are available) to replace a 2nd drain cover that was not broke yet just because it's 20 years old. I have been looking for a swimming pool drain cover for a while because the distance between the screw holes of my pool drain base is close to 7.5”, which makes it extremely hard to find the right one. Most of drain covers in the market have screw hole distance about 6”. The screw hole distance of this pool drain cover probably is the longest one I could find. While it’s a bit shorter than what I needed, it has some room left between the screw holes and the edge, so I used sandpaper to enlarge the screw holes. It fits my pool drain base very well. Please check the pictures for the measurements.

Would have given 5 stars but did need longer screws

Replaced the original anti-vortex cover with this. Original would murder your foot if you stepped on it and the pool cleaner was always caught on it. This cover does not hurt your foot and the pool cleaner does not get stuck on it. What more could you ask for? Instalation only took a while because I can only hold my breath for so long.

My pool was built sometime in the 80s and somehow the drain cover disappeared in the past 35 years. I tried getting a universal one from my pool store but the bolt holes were 6". This cover has bolt holes at 6" and a wider variable distance. My bolt holes on my ring were about 6.75" apart. This fit perfectly. No more rocks in my main drain line. Woohoo!

This cover did need a slight modification for it to fit my drain housing. It simply needed the outer edge ground down, about an 1/8 inch and beveled to fit. The screw holes did not align exactly but with the new screws (not provided) started at an angle, the screw reaches the hole in the housing. Just evenly tighten the screws down for a perfect fit. The price for a pair of these covers including the labor of the modification still beats the covers offered for twice the price or more for a single unit.

Exactly as described, works well. Happy to see a few sets of screws to make sure I had correct ones.
