THERMOS ALTA SERIES Stainless Steel Mug 18 Ounce, Matte Steel/Espresso Black

This was the second of these I have had, my first suffered a crash that broke the vacuum seal, making it inefficient for holding temps. The overall quality has improved since my initial purchase several years ago with some minor improvements in the sealing components and desighn. I bought a duplicate replacement because the first had been so trouble free and efficient at keeping things hot or cold for many hours at a time. It is also simple to maintain, dishwasher safe, and easy to drink from and shut off the well designed lid. It seals very snugly, and the fact that the sliding opening/closing mechanism can double as a bit of good leverage for a good seal and easy take off is a bit of a bonus for cleaning, refilling. Like most Thermos products I have bought and used over my lifetime, it is reasonably priced, provides excellent service, and is very handy to use and carry.

I love this thing! When you lock the slide lock even under pressure it won’t leak! The open handle is a must have. Able to hang on a car door handle or a wire fence or… Also, Fully (almost) able to disassemble to clean. Only the slide lock doesn’t come off. All of the silicone seals are removable, washable and replaceable. I’m ordering another after 10 months of daily use and abuse on the ranch and job site. Don’t get me wrong, it still keeps my hot coffee hot. I just decided to get another to keep my hot tea hot! Time to retire my leaky Yeti.

This cup has held up very well. After many months of daily use it still looks great. The lid always screws on so it ends up oriented the right way. Other cups have more than one set of threads and it can take several tries to end up with the lid pointing the right way. I really appreciate that. The lid flows well, so I have not needed to drill additional vent holes that other cups have needed. After many months of use, the cup has only leaked once when coffee grounds got in the seal area. The slider that opens the valve for drinking makes an excellent lever to help get the lid loose when it's time for a refill. Anyone with arthritis will appreciate that. There was only one concern. In recent weeks the handle had started getting loose. I like to hang the handle on my waist band to keep my hands free, so that may cause more than average wear and tear. I could not see any way to get access to see how to correct the problem. It felt like a loose screw was the culprit. Problem Solved! I drilled a 1/8" hole in the handle where shown in the photo and found a screw buried in silicone. It took about 1/4 turn and the handle is tight again. A 1/8" rubber plug will look fine and be easy to remove if/when that screw needs to be tightened again. The underside of the lid has lock and unlock symbols indicating how to give a 1/4 turn to unlock the seal and pull it off for cleaning. The seal piece removes and reinstalls easily if the slider on top is in the open position. I use a stiff bursh to occasionally remove coffee residue that can collect under there. I just purchased an identical replacement cup today that I will store in the cupboard until this one starts to look old. The 16 oz size works great for me and Thermos has a short/fat version that may work better for you if the tall style seems too "tippy" for you. The photo also shows the stick-on felt pad we put on the bottom of our cups so they don't clank when we set them on a table. Sticky back felt sheets can be found at craft stores.

It doesn’t leak, keeps coffee hot. A bit bigger around than I am used to, but it’s manageable.

As far as I'm concerned, thermos brand is the best. I have always been happy with this brand and I really like this cup.

I got this for my husband to replace the mug he had and loved. So far, this will keep your hot liquids hot for a few hours, maybe longer. It takes a long time for it to get luke warm to cold. The size is perfect for truck cupholders. It is great for travel and I didn't notice in the description, the handle has like a grip/rubber to hold it. Which for him, is a plus too. Design and size are great. We make a 12 cup coffee pot and I could fit just about half of that in his cup. I have a 20oz cup and together we have maybe 1-2 cups left over from these. Holds a lot.

I like this tall Thermos a lot for travel in my car and/or outdoor events. It is well insulated. Its tall shape fits into car cup holders. It has a good handle. And finally, it has a well-fitting lid with spill proof drink spout.

I wish I read the 1 Star reviews before ordering! It's a very nice cup and I was excited when ordering it, since I'm looking for a mug to use at drive-thru coffee places and avoid paper cups with chemicals in them. I get the cup and wash it for the first time and took the lid apart. That's when I realized buying this was a mistake. Odd locking / unlocking design where there is no clear line of coffee flowing, it's blocked by this middle locking piece and my drinks would flow over and around the plastic parts. I don't like that at all. I'd like as little plastic contact as possible with a direct flow from the mug, when drinking. I think the lid is very poorly designed, in my opinion. As others have mentioned, it's not the same lid as in the picture, at least the one I ordered in Feb 2025. it's I'll be returning it or throwing in the trash.

Super-sleek design and completely leakproof. I found no issue in tipping it upside down with hot liquids in it when walking to and from destinations or keeping it in a bag. The seal would give me more reassurance if it was double locking for bags but that ventures more into thermos than mug territory. As a mug, it holds heat for a long time and is a nice design. Would be a wonderful gift! Also: consider not getting the handle version (as I did) since the outside is insulated and not hot whatsoever. The handle more so gets in the way than anything.
