1,700 miles in sleet/snow and still going
Used this to move myself from Western NY to Texas in the middle of a blizzard. Kept all my belongings dry and was very secure the entire trip over the course of 3 days and 1,700 miles. I could only used the straps to secure the bag to my roof racks that run across the roof since my Forester does not have an opening on the side rails for straps, so I used two straps to secure the edges and a third across the middle just for added safety. No problems at all. Only tricky part was reaching the roof to pack it all up! Would have been easier if it opened on 3 sides rather than only two, but this got the job done, worked as advertised, kept my clothes free of salt and water and is still usable. Zippers and straps are high quality. Definitely worth the price! Thought I would use this once and get rid of it but I will definitely find ways to use it on many more occasions.

Highland topper - waterproof proven and great value!
We purchased this at the last minute, prior to our summer trip in a vacation home where we needed to bring massive amounts of food, paper supplies, activities and beach toys (enough for 3 families!). Just days before departing, we determined we either needed to bring a 2nd vehicle or buy a car topper. We decided on the Highland, b/c it was water proof and really well priced. Having never had or shopped for one of these before, we really didn't look at any other aspect. We packed it FULL - we were SHOCKED at how much it would hold!! It seemed the space was endless. However, being that we did it "our way" rather than follow the directions, we packed it in our living room floor and then man-handled it out to the car and up onto the roof. UGH - carrying it and lifting it up onto the SUV proved to be nearly impossible. Nearly... we did get it in place and strapped on. My car did NOT have the cross bars on the roof, so we attached it only to the side bars of the roof rack. Between the weight and the heavy vinyl texture (kind-of sticky) of the bag, it didn't budge at all during the 6 hr drive of interstate and back roads; even during the 2-3 hrs of pounding rain. AND everything inside was perfectly dry!

I love how simple it is to use and I like ...
We have used this several times to haul our things for camping and other traveling. I love how simple it is to use and I like the soft casing as it allows for different sized bags and such to go inside. When I first received this bad I thought it looked rather small and wondered how much I could feasibly fit inside it. My husband and I have 4 children and not a lot of room to pack for a family vacation in our small SUV. We used this to pack all our travel bags into and had extra room for a couple of air mattresses and sleeping bags. I could not believe how much room this little bag seemed to have! I felt as though I had Mary Poppins magical purse that could fit just about anything into it. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but it really was amazing the amount of belongings we were able to load into it! I like the soft case too because it allows you to mold it to fit different sized bags and such into it. It moved where we needed it to and allowed for more to fit inside that a typical hard case would have allowed. We did receive a light sprinkling of rain and all our belongings were still dry but we did not experience a hard downpour. It seems as though it would have protected through a lot more rain though.

Highland Traveled High; Never Failed - Product Performed
Higland Rainproof Car Top Bag worked well on a trip from L. I. N.Y. to So. Fla. It kept a fold-up Eagle Kyack dry and the fold-down oars fit inside; along with a beach chair (small);also, bedding folded and put in plastic bags. Everything stayed compact on my A.H. Mini Clubman. I did not tie it to racks since I didn't have them. I ordered the recommended straps and fastened them tighly accross the outside roof bringing the straps inside the roof. ( I was warned my previous reviews that the attached straps might break in the wind.) The front windows went all the way up. The neat thing is when unpacked it goes back to the small sq. (just as it arrived) The storage takes up little room. This gets an A plus from me. It even matched my black and white Mini with cherboard accessories. I recommend this product highly. Also, if you had to travel some distance by plane; it is a check-in baggage size and would, in my opinion, go the distance.

Used for one trip, large gash in the top by the time we got home
This purchase turned out to be very disappointing. After reviewing several different soft cover car top bags for our trip from Oklahoma to northern Wisconsin, we felt confident that this item would suffice for carrying all the pieces we could not fit into our van. It worked great during our drive north, but it failed us in the way home. We realized after arriving home that there was a large tear on the surface of the bag, leaving an opening about 1/2 to 3/4 of the length of the bag. It's a miracle that the items we had up there did not fall or get blown out. Nonetheless, we are incredibly disappointed with this product as we were hoping to find something that would last our growing family many years to come.

I seemed very sturdy and well made
This was our second attempt at purchasing a car top carrier from Amazon. Sadly, this one didn't work out either. We had only done the first leg of our trip and drove from middle TN to the gulf coast of FL in mid July. I was hot for sure! No rain and no problems until we noticed upon unpacking that the outer layer of one of the corners had simply started shredding away. We were so hopeful that this Highland carrier was the one! I seemed very sturdy and well made. We simply had to send it back and give it the 2 stars.

great buy!
We purchased this bag for a recent family trip to the smoky mountains. I was a little apprehensive about the bag because of the low price, but after reading the reviews I gave it a shot. I must say that I love it! It holds tons of stuff (we are a family of seven), we fit 2 cases if bottled water, 6 suitcases, and even bags of groceries. We were on the road a total of four days, the cargo bag never moved and nothing inside got wet. It is made out of a great material and the zippers and straps held up great. If you are on the fence about this one, go for it! It is definitely worth the money and half the price others are charging for lesser bags.

It is competitively priced and had a pretty solid average of positive feedback
After a road trip where all of our items fell off our rooftop onto the highway, we realized we needed to get a safer cargo carrier for the top of my Honda Pilot SUV. I knew I wanted a soft, waterproof bag for storage purposes when not in use. After reading several reviews online, I decided to go with this one. It is competitively priced and had a pretty solid average of positive feedback. We used this carrier for the first time this past weekend. It was only for a 1 hour trip one way. It was fantastic. I wasn't sure if we would max out the rooftop space .... inside the carrier we packed 3 beach chairs, 4 small duffel bags, 4 sleeping bags, a beach bag full of towels and a medium/large bag of linens. It all fit and we had some room to spare! The material is very thick and durable and I would imagine quite waterproof. The carrier seals first by zipper, then a fold down by velcro. The tie downs were simple to use and tighten. We pulled over once to check the carrier just because we were nervous, given our prior experience, but all seemed fine. We just had to tie off the excess tie down strap so it wouldn't flap. Once we wrapped it around itself and tied a few knots we were good to go. While unpacking, the knots were easy to untie. The only difficult part we had was that it only unzips on two sides, where I would have imagined it unzipped on three sides, making it easier to put items inside. This made it a little more of a struggle to get items in and tucked into the farther corners, especially if you are a short 5ft 3 person trying to climb on the seat to reach the top of my SUV. I am not sure of the rationale for this, perhaps just to make it more water-resistant. It just made packing a little more difficult than what i expected.
