Never received such gruff from someone NOT getting it as a gift!
SHE LOVED IT! I made the mistake of telling a co-worker in another state (thank the Lord!) I got it for my wife as a Valentine's gift. That was what, LAST MONTH, and I'm STILL getting gruff from her (the co-worker, not the wife). Wife LOVED it. It IS a small washboard, small enough it'll go into a 5 gallon bucket IF that's what your actually using it for...to wash clothes (and dem delicates they sometimes like to wear...ahem...). BUT, due to it's size and quality of construction, (which is excellent), as a piece of wall art in our laundry room, it's PERFECT. But, when a co-worker asks, "What did you get your wife for Valentine's?" HANG UP! And then call back saying you got disconnected and continue with WORK related conversation! But it did get back around to that...She (the co-worker) made many OTHER suggestions, but my wife is a fella's dream, she doesn't like flowers (they die), doesn't like jewelry (except wedding ring) and she buys her own clothes to fit HER mood (and size). Doesn't like other's buying clothes for her. But earlier this year she DID mention she wanted a washboard for the laundry room wall. I produced, and it was accepted.

This is not a functional washboard, just a novelty decorative, very disappointed
It does not look like the photo, it does not have a functional use (it’s barely big enough to was a SINGLE sock) it is a waste of materials to manufacture such a useless item. Save your money this item is not worth it.

Perfect For My Needs
I'm so happy to finally have found the size washboard I needed. I wanted a rather small washboard that would fit in my bathroom sink. I live in an apartment and in order to do a wash one must lug their basket of dirty clothes to the laundry room, plus pay $1.15 to wash. But now with my new washboard I can do laundry less often because I can do many items in my lavatory, getting them scrubbed clean using my washboard. It is ideal for ladies nylons, anklets, types of underclothing, ring-around-the-collar and overall washing of (ladies sized) camp shirts, and other smaller clothing/items. For towels, washcloths, sheets, large items, they go in the laundry room washers. This washboard is well made, and one side is for scrubbing substanially sturdier cloth items; the other side for more delicate items. It works so well. I Have NO regrets about purchasing it.

Nice "instrument" A bit small.
Be aware that even though this washboard may possibly be used for... washing... it is smaller than all the old washboards I've ever seen used for ... washing. This piece is designed to be an instrument, and for that, it works rather nicely. It's almost a shame that it does not come with instructions on how to distress it a bit, to make it look more old timey. Note that it does not come with an implement for playing the metal ribs, although practically anything will do. Even finger nails.

hand washing
Hand washing is a pain and I hope you never find yourself without access to a washer and dryer. That is far from the point, I found most of my clothes were fine with just squeezing through the soapy water, but for cleaning dish towels, socks and things like that it did a nice job of getting the dirt out. The sides are delicate and more delicate and I would have preferred more of a normal/delicate combo.Looks nice, be prepared for people asking you if you play the washboard. Other reviewers pointed out the travel aspect which I didn't do personally, but think would work well if you want to do that. Some people wash their undies in the shower, so if you are into that it would up your shower underwear washing game.

Smaller than I thought
This board was alot smaller than I thought. Once I figured out how to hook it to my washtub so it won't slide around (I added a hook to the back and hook it on the lip on the tub) it works fine.

My washboard
I literally squealed when this washboard was delivered. It is just what I have been looking for--forever! Wish it were listed in the laundry section of Amazon rather than under musical instruments. The only reason I found it was because I was bored one day and was tooling around the Amazon site. Last year I ordered an imported product, sans washboard, from Amazon that was touted as a "well made washboard." It turned out to be another piece of imported junk, this time from Mexico. Tried to fix it but ended up giving it away to a crafter who covered it with fake flowers. My Columbus board is made in the United States! Well made, too. Why this company was not profiled on the national news program listing "Made in the US" companies is a mystery.Yes, I will be using my Columbia washboard to wash clothes. And, if the mood strikes, I may strum (I think that is the word to use) a song just because I could. Thank you Columbia and Amazon!

Using a washboard to do my laundry was one of the single worst decisions I've ever made
This is review is less for the washboard and more for the experience. Using a washboard to do my laundry was one of the single worst decisions I've ever made. I couldn't tell you if the washboard works because I can't really tell. I just spent the last 3 hours hunched over my bathtub...are my clothes cleaner than had I taken them to the mat? Probably. But I also have no doubt it's from soaking them in my tub and giving each and every article of clothing attention. The whole time I was using the washboard, I couldn't help but wonder 'what good is this actually doing?'. Now I have to mop my floor because it is soaking wet, and I have to go to the mat anyway if I want my clothes to be dry before next week. Thumbs down on trying to be efficient.
