Not surw, but it's light enough for 8 & 10 year old boys & gramma

How thick are the paddles?

Sorry, I gave the paddles away to my brothers so I don't have them any longer. I can tell you this about them - they are a solid laminated wood paddle with decent grips.

What mistake could I have made setting up as I can't make net reach from end to end?

If put together correctly, the two net posts should be a little wide in order to keep the net tought…you should be able to bend one end in order to fit the net onto the post
