This is wool "roving" NOT "yarn" The item title is wrong!!! You need to know the difference.
I knew this was roving when I bought it. That's what I wanted. But if you are expecting a "yarn" this is NOT what you want. Yarn is multiple spun strands which are plied (wound) together. Roving is combed wool fibers which are gathered into a loose sort of strand which is easily torn and separated. Roving can be used to spin yarn, but it is not yarn is this form. Reviewers who complain that this roving falls apart and sheds fibers are experiencing what roving is meant to be. It's a bit like complaining that your toaster won't dry your socks very well. Again, this is not a fat yarn. Even though people DO use it for "arm knitting" it is NOT a true yarn. This is roving which is intended for spinning into yarn on a spinning wheel, or for various felting crafts.

Yes, you can spin with it
I did not buy this. I did spin some for someone who did, and wondered if it could be spun.Doing a burn test, it's definitely not 100% merino. There is at least some synthetic content since it burns to a hard ball. The feel of it spinning is similar to bamboo/wool blends I've spun.It spun best in long draw but was also workable in short forward draw. It has a lovely sheen. Staple length 4-6 inches. All in all, a good bargain for 8 lb of spinning fiber; you could spin yarn for a blanket or like 4 sweaters.

Structural integrity iffy
Lovely color, structural integrity iffy pulls apart and sheds a lot. Some of the wool was not very held together that’s why I felted it. I felted it in the washing machine before knitting but still structurally iffy in some areas. I arm knitted a lap blanket and I only used about 3-4 pounds and have lots left and the blanket is heavy!

Very thick!
Beautiful quality, thick and heavy. It came vacuum sealed, so it was compressed and needed airing to expand fully.

Wasted money. Not 100% wool.
I decided to give this a try due to the great reviews but ended up disappointed. It doesn’t smell or feel like wool. I needed this for a felting project. When it wouldn’t felt properly, I contacted the seller. He told me it was 20% acrylic but now I am believing it contains more acrylic. Now it is just sitting in the bag and money has been wasted. I’m sure it’s a great buy if you don’t need 100% wool but don’t be fooled by the description. I tried to do a return but the seller told me it would be expensive to ship back and offered a little bit of refund. That was nice but there is still wasted money because I have no use for it.
