But my mother found something of his when we were moving. It was so tarnished I was never able to fully clean all of the details. It's a cross with very fine details and writing. I am talking microscopic type of filigree around the border's of this cross that belonged to my father. I got this item a few years ago, even though my father has been dead since 2006. Nearly 20years of tarnish was on this item. I was scared to use any chemical cleaners on it because 1. it's not stamped and I couldn't really prove one way or the other what type of metal it was. If it was plated, solid, whatever. Just had no idea, and the thought of risking something so precious to chemicals was just not a risk i was willing to take. So I let it soak a couple minutes in ketchup, gently rubbed to clean it off real nice let it dry (it still had severe tarnishing on it but was much lighter). Then this kit arrived today, and i got straight to work. (actually pausing and using the brush while I type this review). Now this item has an indented border frame, which is tiny, i mean tiny. (you can see on the pictures). This brush is getting/has gotten all of the grime/dirt/tarnish out of it. It's cleaned up all of the engraved words, and really looks beautiful. In the first picture you can see the final polishing using the cloth they gave me, (YES THOSE BLACKISH LOOKING STAINS ARE NOT SHADOW, BUT TARNISH!) It went from black and bronzing to a beautiful silver. Can't be happier, (no cleaner was used). P.S don't mind the crappy rope chain, I have it on a rope chain because i never take it off. So you know those human oils are bad and tarnish silver very quickly. The last time I partially cleaned it was several years ago.. (Sorry I forgot to snap a picture of a 'before' next time i'll include one). Update: using google lense I managed to find a clone of this item, this is a vintage piece that has 'silvertone coating' it did not damage that coating. Review: Worth it. - Worked great on some old silver jewelry.

A good set of tools
I can't say how well these tools work on silver because I bought it for brass. I also used only the items included here, no polish. All those things considered, it worked fairly well for a few minutes work. The brass jewelry I have is shinier for my efforts, but I still see some tarnish. Everything I see here advises use on silver, not brass, after all.

Getting down to the Nitty Gritty
This item was very useful in cleaning/polishing the intricate details of a heavily tarnished silver-plated figurine without any scratching. I was very pleased with how quickly it was delivered.

Quality jewelry cloth
Forget the brushes… the cleaning cloth it came with is what you need! Shined up more than one piece of jewelry with impressive results! For real.

Soft and made well
I purchased these to help clean up some jewelry and they were lovely. Very nice soft bristles with sturdy wooden handles. The polishing cloth is large and does the job. It is an excellent product.

Works well but sheds a lot
Great product for cleaning silver but the hairs shed a lot. It's definitely annoying but not enough for me to return them or find a different product. I also wish the bristles came closer to the tip of the wooden handle to make it easier to get into small corners. The tip of the handle bumps into the piece I'm cleaning before the bristles reach it.

Purchased this to clean the fine grooves in my chains and small crevices in jewelry, that can’t otherwise be accessed without a brush. Worked perfectly. Can also use on smooth flat surfaces. The cleaning cloth is a nice bonus and it’s fairly long.

The nooks and crannies in my silverware were alway a pain until now. Horsehair is very gentle. Totally buying a set for my Mom. How could she not know about these brushes?

Well the polishing cloth isn't worth the price. The brushes don't polish silver either. Not a reccomended product.
