Are the paint pans artist grade?

i believe the cotman brand implies the paint is more of a student/hobbyist paint.  i think this product ( http://www.amazon.com/Winsor-amp-Newton-Artists-Compact/dp/B000N85WVQ/ref=pd_sbs_hg_7 ) has the paint you are looking for, though i prefer the carrying case that you asked about here, that holds the cotman paints.  i mix the artist grade paint and the cotman paint all the time and really get good results from both, if that matters to you.

Is there a paint pan replacement set of these colors? All the ones i see by them are more expensive that this whole kit

You can buy individual pans. The Cotman or Winsor Newton Professional will fit. Other half pans can be a bit snug but I have squeezed some other brands in there. Or save the pans that are in there and refill them with tube paint as you use them up. It won't be too expensive that way and you can upgrade to professional colors. Happy painting!

Will the W&N professional pans fit as replacements for the Cotman?

yes, they will! I swapped out the pans in this too LOL:) Some other brands are a tight fit but will work as long as they are only on one side as the middle row has some give.

Question 4

Can you recommend a bigger brush that still fits inside this case? I want this as a gift, but hear the brush is too small...

The brush is skimpy compared to the one they show in the photo, it’s not a full size at all. None of my travel brushes fit inside this kit and they are either Escoda, or Isabey, and 1 is a Raphael Le Voyageur, all are just too long. You could take a regular brush and cut down the handle to fit, and put a plastic tube over the bristles for protection. Reconnect the handle parts with plastic tubing if you want a longer brush again. It still would make a great gift even if the included brush isn't to your liking.
