A Fine Choice
Two appealing things going on here - First off, the read to me read to you angle really works and engages our little guy's attention. Second, there are some cultural memes - fables, American tall tale characters, classic book characters - that seem to be falling by the wayside. (There's no Paul Bunyan "Call of Duty" video game, I guess.) This book and similar read to/read with books fill in that gap a bit. This book includes the classic fables, and handles them quite nicely.

My 7-year-old grandson loves these books!
My 7-year-old grandson loves these books! He loves the format and pays attention to the content. I tried a similar type of book (one page meant for the adult and one for the child), and he didn't care for it at all despite the beautiful photos and content related to an interest of his (animals). We already read the Elephant & Piggie books together (he's Piggie and I'm Gerald). While he's a good reader, adults forget how tiring it can be for a child to read aloud for a long period at a time. These books give him short breaks for a change.

Our favourite time of the evening..
My little boy loves bedtime with these books! This is the second one we have and not only have we gotten closer (didn't think that was possible), but he's gained a love of reading and is excited for bedtime. That's a bunch of wins in my book!

FUN fluency practice!
These books are my favorites for providing reading practice for my students who really struggle with fluency. They are really fun, and have delightful illustrations. They are not too juvenile for a 3rd grader, and students love to re-read them over and over. They get more fluent and expressive with each reading. They like to perform them for their parents after their tutoring session.

Outstanding books.....get them all. Both my children have loved the interaction with my husband and I while learning to read. It is a very different experience than just having the just-learning-to-read-child read a simple book to you. It also helps them hear the pattern and how to read, not just flatly reading words. I even find my young readers doing the books together....an awesome sight to see! My children want to keep reading the whole book. Get the series! My children are 5 and 7.

Fun to read together
My son (6) reads, but needed some more practice to increase his automaticity (ability to read as though it were subconscious). He loves reading these books with me and/or his mother. The topics are fun classics with a little twist. He enjoys picking out which character to read and then doing it again as the other character.

You Read To Me....
I LOVE the set of books for reading together by Mary Ann Hoberman. I have used them in my classroom and as a tutor. Kids love them. They are great for practicing fluency and expression, not to mention comprehension. All of her books are amazing and probably my favorite books for kids.

GREAT FUN FOR BEGINNING READERS
My granddaughter has just learned to read, and she loves these books. There is a series of them, and I've gotten them all. Each poem is one or two pages. One character's part is printed in one color, and the other character's part is printed in a different color, so it's easy to tell what to read. The poems are easy to read, funny, entertaining, witty, silly, and really enjoyable for a reader who is reading on a 1st or 2nd grade level. Beautiful, colorful illustrations included for each poem.

Great to read together
My Son loves reading this with me.He chooses his part, and I read the other. At the end of the fable we talk about what happened and he explains the moral to me.He is UK school year 1, and a competent, if slightly reluctant reader.

Amazing series of books!
My 7-year-old son and I LOVE this book! We have two others in the series as well, and we love them all. We started reading them together last year, when my son was 6 years old. They are fun and easy to read (about a Grade 1 to 2 level for the most part, with some more difficult vocabulary here and there which is nice). Although he's a good reader, my son is active and can be picky about what he'll read. He really loves these books during bedtime, though!

My daughter and I read these stories before bed and she seems to really enjoy it. Some of the pages are a bit of a challenge so I read and then she repeats.
