Game changer!! This eliminates the one hand handicap of working in the dark. Very bright and very position adjustable. You can aim this light exactly where your hands and eyes need it. Intensity and battery life is more than reasonable. Coast makes a quality product that I've come to rely on over the years. I am a retired aircraft mechanic, and this light is on of my top priority tool list. Also great for household emergencies, such as power outages. I also ordered the 2 piece set so I can keep one in the car as well. Also perfect for those that enjoy walking after sundown. I'm spoiled for having both hands free to use in any situation. I feel these are among the best one can buy and highly recommend Coast headlamps period!

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Good warranty. Reliable, only issue is one set of batteries is corroded. I'm going to open the package and throw them away.

Super bright headlamp that outperforms more expensive models. Ideal for hunting, fishing, camping, and checking for the perfect doneness of steaks. The much dimmer red light provides enough illumination to navigate at night but supposedly won't spook game.

I have several different headlamps I've used over the years and this one is the brightest by far. Not the cheapest but definitely the brightest. It does not have an over-the-top-of-the-head strap (which at first concerned me) but the unit is so lightweight that none is needed. Vertical adjustment clicks are solid and positive and overall quality is very good. Beam focus is changed by rotation off the lens instead of pull-out/pull-in (which is faster) but other than that this light does everything I want and does it very well.

Update! Thank you for coming to my TED talk! I've been buying coast headlamps for my astronomy employees for over a decade. Over the years they have made some key improvements. No more green light you have to toggle through to get back to red. LOL who ever needed green light for anything? To make you look more like a hitman or be more detectable to night vision equipment from other hitmen? I just wish they would add reverse polarity protection and raise the price an extra 1$ or whatever it costs. If you put just 1 of the 3 AAA batteries in backwards you just killed your $25 headlamp. Usually when your headlamp batteries run out, it's dark. When else would you have a headlamp on? So how do you change batteries in the dark? Duh, apparently with the second headlamp Coast expects you to carry at all times. I mean they do sell them in pairs, right? The other method could be to use the torch on your phone. If you are thinking you can use the old fashioned approach by feeling the batteries and the battery compartment so that you put the battery's nub end (positive) opposite of the spring end (negative) in the compartment, that's not going to work with Coast headlamps because there is no spring, just little copper tabs that all feel about the same. I suppose if you can read braille you might be able to feel the battery orientation instructions if you have a skinny enough finger tips to fit into a AAA slot. But then doesn't that sort of beg the question, "Why would you need a headlamp if you are an expert at reading braille?" Go around your house, office, shop, school, etc. and put a AAA battery into the something the wrong way. Do you own any other electronic device that can be destroyed by reversed polarity from a single AAA battery? I don't. Near as I can tell Coast is the only mass-producer of a product built to fail in this way. Every year or two I send Coast an email making this simple suggestion for product improvement asking, "How many million of these headlamps do you have to sell before you can afford to add reverse polarity protection? Or is that in fact your strategy for selling even more millions of these?" They tell me, 'We can prove it is not an intentional scam because if you send one back claiming if failed due to reverse polarity we will replace it for free, all you need to do is pay the shipping. Well, that's a pretty safe if not entirely insincere offer isn't it? IDK about the rest of you, but I'm filling up a box of reversed polarity blown coast headlamps. Only fortunately neither me nor my employees are dumb enough to make the bulk shipping saving pay off. We only have 3 self-destructed ones so far. So I guess get a few extra for yourself and try not to change their batteries in the dark? I'm buying 2 more as soon as I click submit on this review... just in case. UPDATE 6/11/26 This seller is now committing intentional FRAUD! They are not really shipping the discontinued FL84 model. They are are actually selling Model FL74 which is dimmer and has the stupid green light nobody wants. They are just putting lying sticker saying FL85 where it covers FL74 on the original packaging. I bought 4 sets in last 2 weeks hoping it was an honest mistake and they would eventually send me real FL85. Then I noticed the lying sticker. You can fool me twice but not 3 times!
