Finally found a soft ferro rod
Soft rod. Lots of burning chunks. Great for fire starting. I prefer the softer rods to throw burning chunks.

Exactly what I wanted
I purchased several of these Ferro Rods for my grandkids for starting camping fires without matches. They are completely water proof so they can get wet and still work fine. They were exactly what they said they were and they work well. You will need a good striker tool like a knife or a hacksaw blade works good. I particularly like a "deburring tool" with a sharp edge on it. Anyway I would buy this again.

Good Ferro Rod
Just as advertised. Strikes and sparks well, nice and big and will last a while.

Does what it is supposed to - Large size makes throwing spark almost too easy.
Big and thick enough to use as-is, but throw a DIY handle on them and it is almost like having a flamethrower in your bag. Every bit as good as any expensive "brand name" rod.

Does what it's supposed to do perfectly
After watching numerous people struggle on Survivor for a decade making fire with one of these, I wanted to see just how easy/hard it would be. It comes with no instructions so it's assumed you know what you are doing. I just put what I saw on TV to use, spent a couple minutes scraping a very small amount of dust off of the rod and began generating sparks with a table knife. Getting the spark to hit the right spot to ignite the dust was the challenge but it's not too hard to get it aimed in the right direction with practice and patience. I was able to get a fire started in under 5 minutes but wasn't fighting any wind. If you don't like getting your hands dirty, get a model with a handle as it does transfer similar to a graphite stick.

Shower of sparks
Just received 1/2”x5” ferro rod today. It has some nice weight and thickness to it. I wanted to scrap off a small section of the black coating to prep it and on 3rd scrap with my blade the shower of sparks that were created was very impressive. I have multiple sizes of ferro rods and fire starters but this one has is the largest and will probably be my favorite with it proving itself over time. This is my first purchase from Dosmamz and will definitely buy from again without hesitation. I have no doubt this will last a life time.

Showers Of Sparks
This is a nice ferro rod and an outstanding value. It does come with a pretty heavy coating of protective paint which will have to be scraped off as is the case with all rods. You need a sharp spine on your knife or striker. Produces a good quantity of sparks along with a dose of molten fireballs with each strike. Igniting birch bark is almost too easy with this rod. Highly recommended.
