Doggy Slippers

An absolute gem
Jorge Lojan wrote to a large number of children all over Latin America. He questioned them about their pets. Mr. Lojan received hundreds of replays; many of them quite insightful, many funny, many recorded the love that can only occur between a child and their pet. Lojan took these answers to his letters and used them as inspiration in creating this wonderful book of poetry for children centered about their pets."Littlekins is black, brown and yellow. When he came he was so smallhe fit into my doggy slippers. He can't remember now that he was hit by a truck,or that we put him in a boxwith blackest and fresh milk. Now he's so bigthat he doesn't even fit into his name. And how he howls when the fire trucksiren wails past in the night!"Simple and to the point, a pet viewed through a child's eye. One of my personal favorites and one that holds much truth is:"My bunny understands me.When I'm sad she can tell right away. And though she walks on four feetand she likes to bite, she's nicer than the nicest people."Wow...how true. The beautiful and quirky illustrations by isol (One of my favorite illustrators), fit the mood of this work perfectly. You can make an instant connection here."Life is good.Kitty makes it betterwhen things go wrong."Again...truth told by a child. This one is becoming difficult to find which is a shame because it has so much to offer the small child and is an ideal first poetry book. This was a library find.Don BlankenshipThe Ozarks
