Searching for a rain gauge, I looked for two qualities - beauty and durability. The angel is quite beautiful and, if she were made of copper, would be stunning. As it is, the figure is made of metal, hammered in places, with wisps of black paint in the hammered areas so the uneven surface is visible. A translucent brown glaze (not unlike the brown sugar glaze I put on our Easter ham last Sunday) adds more character and detail. Seeing the angel in person, I don't regret the purchase. I can't detect any cheap short cuts; she's well constructed. Likewise, the glass measuring cylinder is heavy, clearly marked, and fits perfectly in her hands. If I had any suggestions to the manufacturer, I would say to make the bottom plate detachable so that the owner can insert weight to sturdy the gauge during heavy wind. I sat her on a flat stone in my garden and am still ruminating on how to make her thunderstorm-proof.

It's a beautiful rain gauge however it's not at all accurate. Not sure why it's off so much. I have 3 rain gauges and this one always shows twice as much rain as the other two. I was replacing another rain gauge that always agreed with another that I have, and those two always matched, so I have to assume this new one is just not at all accurate.

This is a truly beautiful rain gauge, and I like the fact that it doesn't have to be attached to a post or stuck in the ground. The reason I'm only giving it 4 stars is because I think it may have accuracy issues. The angel's hat seems to partially overlap the opening in the collection tube, and I haven't been able to position the tube so that it's far enough away not to be affected. If the wind happens to be blowing from behind the angel's body, it could underestimate the amount of rain falling, but on the other hand if rain collecting on the brim of the hat is channeled into the tube it could overestimate. We just had a torrential rainfall that lasted over an hour, and when I looked at the gauge (which I had just emptied prior to the storm), it was filled to overflowing - it was a lot of rain but I question whether we really got over 7 inches in an hour and a half... UPDATE: Okay, it really is overstating rainfall totals - I tested it against another cylindrical collector. It rained again overnight, and the angel collected 2 1/4 inches, while the other collected only about 1 1/2 inches. My guess is that all rain hitting the front half of the angel's hat is being channeled into the tube. I'm going to try (again) to bend the arms up to get the tube farther away from the edge of the hat, but so far I'm less than impressed with the design of this rain gauge.

Arrived in great shape...well packed. Very cute. I gave it to my brother for his birthday. He put it on his deck. Very sturdy and well made. The only thing I wish it had was a couple of holes drilled at the bottom in order to secure it to something a little better so that it won't blow over. Other than that it is adorable.

This is a lovely rain gauge. I have owned two and had to replace glass reservoirs three times as gauge blows over in rain storm.

Beautiful and well made rain gauge, easy to use, easy to read, easy to empty. Looks really classy in my newly landscaped garden.
