Bridge Basics 2: Competitive Bidding

This is so much better than the revision to Bidding in the 21st Century
This is so much better than the revision to Bidding in the 21st Century. I've used that book for 5 years & it is confusing for the students. Many sentences in it do not apply to the lesson being taught. Some of my students took lessons using Bidding in the 21st Century, and asked me to teach their friends. I chose Bridge Basics 1 & 2 for the 2nd set of lessons because after some research on books that taught bridge, I thought it was shorter and much easier to understand. The 5 students who took both sets of lessons RAVED about Bridge Basics 1 & 2, and all agreed it was a big improvement over their 1st set of lessons using Bidding in the 21st Century. I teach at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, and will switch to Bridge Basics 1 & 2 this fall.Bonnie Angers

A great guide to duplicate bidding
I'm just getting into duplicate bridge and this is the best book by far to explain bidding. There are so many conventions used in duplicate bridge and trying to learn the basics along with the actual bidding process is almost a nightmare. I used to play the Goren system but duplicate has advanced well beyond that and now you need good, understandable sources of information on the subject. This book does not get into conventions but it does explain the nuances of good bidding from opening hands to overcalls and doubles. Of course you need to know the SAYC openings and responses as well. If you're new to duplicate, couple this with 25 Bridge Conventions by Seagram and Smith and that's all you need - plus the SAYC crib sheet.

great for beginning bridge players
We bought this book for a newly formed bridge club - we have two veteran players, two beginners, and two novice-intermediate players. This book has been great to get the beginners up to speed quickly and to be able to engage in basic play with all members of our little club. We bought her companion "cheat sheet" as well (bridge at a glance), which helps in the heat of play if we've forgotten something. It has given us the basics for all of our players to improve their play and learn more advanced skills.

Excellent Bridge reference for modern bridge.
I'm teaching bridge and found Audrey Grant's series of Bridge books a great review for modern Bridge techniques. I went almost 30 years without playing but love it more than I recalled after reading 3 of Audrey Grants Bridge series. I've recommended them to the students.

Good - but not the best
I've just been through 3 books on competitive bidding. See my reviews on Marshall Miles and Paul Mendelson. This one presents a similar system to Mendelson, and is clear and structured. Mendelson's has the added advantages of being punchy and covering more ground. You won't waste your money on this one, but for me, it's not the best.2010 updateI keep re-visiting the Mendelson book, but Audrey Grant's stays gathering dust alongside Marshall Miles's effort, which is vastly inferior.

Very good condition for a used book
I ordered a week ago. True to the description, this used book arrived in very good condition. No markings anywhere, and the pricing was competitive. It was a pleasant surprise to receive it within 48 hours of ordering. I will buy from Atlantic Book Rescue again.

A group of friends and I decided to form a bridge group, None of us had any knowledge of bridge whatsoever but with 2 or 3 sessions with a friend/instructor and Audrey Grant's books, we are really enjoying this new hobby.
