Great book, and I lost some weight too.
The book would have been worth it just for the wonderful and up-to date overview what MS is and how it can be treated. It is soooo definitely worth the money.I went on the diet (or at least what I believe the diet should be for me), and found it very challenging. Surprisingly the challenge was not so much in avoiding the known immune-triggering foods (except when I am walking past a bakery (:-}), but mostly in figuring out what foods fall into that category for me [the book says that everybody has different triggers, but gives some likely suspects for most people which is what I started with]. I had some health improvements right when I started the diet, but then after a few weeks I seemed to become more sensitive a wider range of foods than before. In any case I have only been "dieting" for about 6 weeks now, too early to give any final judgments. I will stick with this a few months more and then evaluate what it does for me. You have to have patience with this disease. The definite and unexpected side benefit is that I have been losing quite a bit of weight without any conscious calorie restriction. On weight loss diets I have a very hard time to succeed, like my body is holding on to every tiny gram of fat. And now I did not even try to lose weight --and off came the pounds. I read somewhere than inability to lose weight can be related to food allergies. Well that seems to be true in my case for sure. Never lost weight so effortlessly. My recommendation is a DEFINITELY BUY THIS BOOK if you can afford it. Worth every penny. Also their website [msrecoverydiet.com]is full of useful info.

Incredibly Helpful to my condition!!
I was diagnosed with MS 22 years ago. Despite multiple expensive and side-effect causing Big Pharam drugs, I suffered at least one or two exacerbations a year....optic neuritis or walking troubles. I read this book in the spring of '08 and eliminated all wheat and gluten from my diet. I remmeber the day I started the wheat/gluten eliminmation diet, the first day of spring, 3/21/08! In almost 5/12 years since then, I have only had ONE exacerbation, and that was clearly the result of extreme over-exertion on a trip abroad.I have also had consultations with a fantastic neurologist, who will have a book released on 9/17/13 called "Grain Brain". It is about the effects of wheat on the brain. But, this book brought my attention to the subject years ago. I can not thank the authors enough! Maybe it's not specifically wheat in your diet that's a problem for you, but it surely is worth your while to read this book and maybe find what you could do to help your MS!!

Wonderful beginning book for anyone with MS
I purchased this book 2 years ago. I implemented the diet and principles and saw improvement very quickly. My brain fog lifted (I didn't even know I was in a fog until it was gone). I had struggled with my weight for years. The excess weight just fell off. I lost 20 pounds in no time. My body continues to regulate me to my correct size. After two years I have lost 40 pounds and all I did was eat and utilize basic exercises. My walking and energy levels improved quickly. However, I must point out that when going gluten free, I soon found out that I felt much better by not trying to replace bread and grains. Bread of any kind has very little nutritional value. I feel better and have more energy without grains of any kind. I lean more to a Paleo diet and now follow the Wahls Protocol (highly recommend this book too). Dealing with MS is a learning process and it is important to keep reading and seeing what works for you. This is the book that made me realize I didn't have to wait for a miracle from the drug companies and just accept declining health. I have taken control of my health and it feels great!

Great book! Explains everything very well and why!!!
I was originally diagnosed with MS in 2007, but my doctor misdiagnosed what DID turn out to be MS with something else. After some time, I was admitted into the hospital earlier this year because I couldn't walk or use my hands and was told that my MS condition, which I did have after all, since 2007 was much worse. To make a long story short, and after many different types of drugs and methods on how to hamper my relapses, I came upon this book while recently in the hospital (latest MS drugs were not working). I downloaded it on my Kindle and have been reading it ever since. The authors in the very beginning explain the basics of the MS Recovery Diet (do's and do not's) and make you start thinking right off towards changing your diet to better a human body with MS. I think this is very helpful so that you can start making dietary changes immediately. Another really great thing about this book is that the author's explain MS and neurological conditions very well, even better than my (new) Neurologist as a matter of fact. I've been on the diet for about two weeks now and happy to say that I do feel better. I'm only hoping that with the information from this book along with a new medicine regime, I can start living again and not rely on "life crutches."To be honest, hope is always possible... but Judith and Ann just enhance it ten fold!!!

Inspiring, motivational, and informative. BUY!
This book gave me hope, and made me realize that I don't have to give in to MS anymore. It is not only informative but the personal stories are inspiring. I use this book as my go to guide for MS and lifestyle via diet and exercise. I plan to re-read it frequently to help keep me on track when I'm doubting the role that diet plays in my health. My only wish for this book is the facts. I wish that even more of them were backed up by a source and not just coming across as personal opinion. Overall The MS Recovery Diet is highly recommended by me.

Interesting, informative book on changing your diet, health and life
I’ve tried IBS elimination diets and thought I’d go a step further and look at this. There’s an awful lot of blurb to encourage you to follow the diet - lots of case studies, anecdotal evidence, as well as research. My big gripe is that the book I got was 10yrs old so I need to find a book which presents up to date research. I really like the recipes in it - from the basic but necessary tips on roasting veg to good ideas for spreads & dressings as well as meals and puds; enough to be adventurous & widen your repertoire; food that sounds like something you’d really eat. It’s certainly given me renewed impetus for paying more attention to my diet and reinforced the need to eliminate problem foods to optimise my health - I have been fighting myself, sulking big time lately, and that’s no good. I’ve also had a major dip in health, every doctor I see diagnoses me with something new without offering me treatment. There comes a time when you have to actively take responsibility for yourself. As a diet, the book could be much more helpful - I waded through it with a highlighter, turned page corners and made notes until I’d come up with my own diet work book. I do feel more educated and I do feel the arguments make sense - the case studies have been enlightening for all the “me too!” moments, so useful after meeting blank of bemused faces when I’ve disclosed my symptoms.I’m not worried about whether I’ve got MS or not, I just need to know what to do so I can get on with my life as best I can. I don’t feel like a wallowing mess anymore; I feel empowered.I’ve started taking various supplements: omega 3 fish oil capsules with every meal; daily vitamin D3; B complex with folate once weekly; strong vitamin C twice a day; daily lecithin. I’m ingesting more extra virgin olive oil as well as other recommended oils eg flax, walnut, sesame. I’d already eliminated animal fat from my diet and had noted intolerances to dairy, legumes, gluten, fibre, sugar, & FODMAP foods so am looking again at eggs and yeast carefully and have gone back to my known safe foods, knowing now that I have to give my gut time to heal.Going without all foods I’ve grown up with & been used to eating day in day out, has been really hard for me but once you believe that you’re actually causing yourself physical damage and ill health by what you’re ingesting, how can you not adapt & develop greater self control? We can’t control many things but we have absolute control over what we put in our mouths.
