Premier Book on Bichon breed
I bought this book after deciding on a Bichon for our family. I wish I had read before deciding on the dog. It would have solidified my decision (which I thought was a well informed one). But it would have helped me avoid some pitfalls AND better understand some of Max's behaviors like the Bichon Blitze...so adorable now). I was trying to "break" him of this behavior and now understand that it is a behavior indicative of the breed and indicates his utter joy of being in our family.I came home one day and discovered that my 8 year old and 6 year old twins had discovered a DVD in the back of the book and watched it. They are better pet owners because of it. They know (even more than I) about his grooming requirement and take care of the bulk of his hygiene and maintenance because they watched the DVD. I still haven't watched it because I don't want to change the fact that THEY have the knowledge base to take care of their pet.I would encourage anyone considering bringing a Bichon into their family to purchase this book with free DVD!Signed: NOT a dog person (until now)

great primer for this breed
I just rescued two cuties. They were my first Bichons. I got this book three months after my rescue and it nailed their personalities...good and bad. I wish I had read it before the rescue, as I would have had fewer surprises. I also learned a ton about the history and many tips specific to Bichon ownership. I donated 10 of the books to the rescue group so they can give one to each new rescue family.

Basic and missing DVD
Unfortunaty this book is a little too basic, lots of words with few useful content and, worst of all, the so-promised DVD didn't arrive with the book

Comprehensive book on the Friendliest Dog
This book covers everything from the history of the breed, where to acquire your new family member, diet, exercise, grooming, housebreaking, health, training and even end of life issues. Each chapter is well organized, clearly written and has nice color illustrations. Inserts throughout the book includes helpful tips that reinforce the material. The appendix includes the standard of the breed, various breed associations, listing of pet sitters, therapy societies, training resources, rescue groups, websites, and publications.A DVD accompanies the book on training, which is not Bichon Specific. If you're considering a Bichon or already have one, this book is one of the best. Conclusion:If you have allergies and want a dog that doesn't shed, needs little exercise, need a loving pet and companion, and want a very intelligent friend, I highly recommend a Bichon Frise.I highly recommend this book.
