I saw this item om a vlog and bought it. Works great in my heavy clay Midwest soil. Digging is si much easier.

The shovel itself is terrific. My husband didn’t really think he needed it, but has already enjoyed using it. I found it to be much easier to dig holes to move some shrubs around in my backyard. I am very happy with my purchase. My cautionary tale comes with opening the package. There is no packing material around the shovel inside of the box, and it is sharp. When my husband picked up the box which I had left just inside my front entrance the shovel sliced right through the box and scratched my wood floor. Just open the box outside.

This proves blade shape matters for different jobs. A great design for digging out roots and getting through hard soil.

Works better than a standard shovel.

I have both the long-handled and short-handled versions of this spade, and I use both regularly. They have held up extremely well, even when digging in very hard, compacted soil. The construction is sturdy, the handles are comfortable to use, and they’ve proven to be reliable tools for a wide range of garden and landscaping projects.

This is a fantastic digging shovel - easiest I’ve ever used. The only negative is that it doesn’t hold much so I use it to dig and a larger bladed shovel to remove the dirt - I’m sure the smaller capacity is necessary in order to maintain its lightweight, a good trade off in my opinion.

I have a shovel, a spade, and now this Spearhead spade. This is my favorite, and dare I say, fun to use. I’m re-landscaping and have terribly hard clay and plants with absurdly thick and tough root systems. With my normal spade, I could hardly dig into the first few inches of the dirt, let alone penetrate the roots of the plants I was attempting to take out. I got this Spearhead, and the same situation was completely changed. It went through dirt and roots without an issue. That’s not to say it didn’t require considerable effort, but the situation is a tough one, so the fact that I was able to do the job with any kind of shovel was very impressive to me. As others have said, if digging in sandy, soft soil, a normal spade will get more volume of dirt out quicker. However, if the dirt is rocky, hard, full of roots, etc. than this spade will do the job that the normal spade will be incapable of. Five stars.

This is a good shovel, but it is not a magical tool. First, it is a small shovel head. About 50% smaller than a normal shovel. Consequently, it penetrates the ground about 50% easier, but also removes less each time. I'm currently digging an underground greenhouse and went through various soils and had a few observations. In loose topsoil with rocks this shovel works well. The point makes it very likely to find a way under the rock with ease. In hardpack clay with no rocks this shovel is also great. It cuts the clay with minimal effort. In hard clay with rocks you will still need a pick and a normal shovel. It pries rocks extremely well, but you could also easily overdo it and snap the handle if you're not careful. Will this be a lifetime tool? Probably not. Will it last a few years or use, I think so. Is it worth the price? In most cases, I think so.
