I found him a nice used guitar and got him some starter materials for Christmas, including this book. I wanted something that would be good for a beginner, but not too boring. Of course, I have been teaching him and I know the material covered in the book, but I wanted a sort of framework. I've been really pleased with the book. It does a great job teaching the basics, like how hold and tune the guitar. I also like how it teaches simplified chords right off the bat. It has a large variety of recognizable songs that gradually increase in difficulty. I think being able to play songs they know really helps kids get excited about music and makes practicing more fun.
