Furnace Working Again
My Beckett AFG oil burner was starting to shut off (lock out). At first once a day, usually early am. Did some research, and learned about the function of the CAD cell. Seemed likely to be either bad CAD cell, or perhaps a bad controller. There was plenty of fuel, and the furnace had been serviced the prior week. Furnace was 20 years old, and had never had a lockout until now. Ordered one of these CAD cells on Saturday. Unfortunately, by evening, the furnace was locking out after burner ignited for about 1 minute. Flame looked good, but it was going to be in 30s overnight, so called for a tech to come out. The tech bled some bubbles out of fuel line, and left. Furnace locked out again the next morning, yet held all day Sunday. Locked out again Monday am, so I opened up burner flame port, and cleaned the oil and dirt off the end of the CAD cell. Burner started, flame was good, but later that day it locked out again. Called for tech #2. He removed a fuel line check valve that was mounted next to tank shutoff, bled the line, and left after furnace was working a while. Neither tech tested the old cad cell with a multi-meter. I asked each if the CAD cell could exhibit such behavior, and each said no. This new CAD cell arrived just as Tech 2 was leaving, and an hour later furnace locked out. I replaced the old CAD cell (which looked fouled and cloudy with fuel oil) with this new one, and furnace started right up, and has worked fine for the last 12 days. Very happy with this product, and disappointed in my furnace service company's techs.
