Simple Vacuum, powerful suction
Light weight about 9 lbs, Picks up everything including glitter. easy to change bags. Space saver for storage, ridged construction. Its only 12 inches wide for vacuuming, the wheels are tight to the base that is great for vacuuming but you need to lift it to transport it to vacuuming location. Over all the vacuums functions great on both carpet and tiles surfaces. Its just a bit louder than our old vacuum but it also out performed it.

AWESOME VACUUM. *GREAT* for pet hair, don't listen to the people who say its not good for pet hair.
So I bought this vacuum cleaner as a replacement for a Shark Professional Lift Away canister vaccum. The shark had some issues, namely: 1. It had an attachment tube through which all the suction power at some point went. This tube was made of a material that kept cracking and we had to duct tape it. In the end it was more tape than tube and this led to a loss of suction. 2. I was absolutely SICK of emptying the canister and digging out pet hair and inhaling the dust and cleaning the filter etc. It was nasty. My wife and I made a deal for the housework. She would do the downstairs and I the upstairs. Since the upstairs is 100% frize carpet, the vacuum quickly became a point of contention for me. I did my research (A LOT OF IT) and came to Oreck. I didn't feel like shelling out 500+ dollars for one of the super top of the line home versions that are aesthetically pleasing and instead opted to pocket the cash and buy this workhorse for 150 bucks. And I am IMPRESSED. We have 3 dogs and a cat. The dogs are a Siberian Husky, a German Shepard, and a St. Bernard. Needless to say we a have a LOT of pet hair. Some reviewers have mentioned that they didn't think the oreck was effective for this. These people are lying to you. Our carpets are now amazingly clean. This thing sucks up debris and pet hair like nothing I've ever seen. Its a BEAST. And its lightweight. The bags hold a LOT and when its time to change them out you just pull em, toss em and replace em. They are cheap. I've been through 2 in a month and got a 25 pack for like 15 bucks. Get the scent tabs. You can really smell them at first, after the first couple of days you cant smell anything, which hopefully is the point. Some people have mentioned a burning rubber smell when they started using the vaccuum. I noticed this too, but I think it is just a burn in phenomenon as it quickly went away. The replacement and maintenance parts (belt/roller) are both on amazon for under 10 bucks. I expect to change the belts and rollers on occasion and have this vacuum for a decade. It doesn't have any attachments. it just cleans the carpets and floors superbly well. We've used it downstairs on wood and rugs and tile with no issues and it has pulled up loose pet hair and cat litter with no problems. Give it a go. Best vacuum I've ever owned. See pictures for pet hair effectiveness.

Astounding machine!
I just received the Oreck Commercial XL Upright Corded Vacuum Cleaner, Bagged Professional Commercial Pro and I'm thrilled. It unpacked and was assembled in less that 20 minutes. It is a no frills vacuum but it is so light that it virtually floats. Listen, I'm 67 and I've had Rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia for 20 yrs. In the last 10, vacuuming and sweeping have become nearly impossible. I used to sweep and vacuum my whole house in less than an hour but now it can take days to do the whole house. My back, neck, arms, and hips are in agony pushing around the Hoover I use. I saw this and the reviews and decided it was worth the actual bargain price. If you have mobility or pain issues, this might be a good choice for you. I used it today and didn't have to sit down after I did one room. It was effortless. It went from carpet to floor easily and picked up the pine pellet cat litter that had been dropped. The carpet looked as good as it does with the larger heavier machine. I really love it and it is small enough I don't have to store it in a closet but can put it next to the washing machine in the laundry room. I truly hope it continues to live up to what I saw with the first use. There are no attachments. I to just attach the handle and go. Even came with one bag, which is much larger than my Hoover bags. With 3 cats, I have to vacuum a few times a week but have not been able to do that. So, I need an effective machine. This seemed to do the job. Is it as good as my Hoover? I haven't done a comparison because I have to have someone else use it. It is almost impossible for me now. It will be relegated to the garage until I think I need it. I plan on buying the hand held machine next so I have the versatility of the attachments.

Great professional housecleaning vaccum.
Used heavily for housecleaning business. When it works, its great. Its got a good suction force, normal size, lightweight build. Fits great in the back of a sedan. I find that after heavy use, the plug end of the cable will tear. Imagine the tear of an apple charger, like that. It's annoying to fix and needs improvement. Additionally, you'll have the regular maintenance like having to open up the bottom and unclog the spinning mechanism, but that's normal. For office/housecleaning, I find that it gets the job done reliably, and will continue to use it for the foreseeable future.

Not Good on Pile Carpet ... Period
Somewhere among all the good reviews are the few more critical ones that tell the truth: This vacuum is meant for bare floors and very low pile carpet only ! The light weigh advantage goes out the window when the vacuum is so hard to push on a medium pile carpet that it feels like they got a workout for your right arm. Nothing is adjustable since "Automatic floor adjustment enables the vacuum cleaner to move between carpets and hard surfaces without changes to manual settings". Haa! There are no manual settings to start with, and nothing adjusts despite what it says. That single line in the description is so misleading and untrue, it should be removed. Being somewhat of an engineer, I checked the bottom of the vacuum to see if I could improve things, and found a plastic/rubber "scraper" angled toward the front of the unit, and guaranteed to "scrape" the carpet and make the thing hard to push. I removed 3 screws and a cover and took the "scraper" out, then replaced the cover with the 3 screws. The vacuum is now about half as hard to push... still worse than any other vacuum I have owned over the years, but only half as bad as it was. As far as performance, it's okay but that's all. The whiskers at the edge do nothing because there is no suction at the edges. About an inch or so on the left side of the unit (where the belt runs) also has no suction, so while it's 12 inches wide it has about 10 inches of suction. And the suction is nothing to get excited about, but barely enough to remove light debris. The unit weighs 8.2 pounds, but the cord must add another 5 pound, making it heavier to haul around than you think. And it will not roll on carpet, either, so you have to carry it everywhere. Stairs: forget it, since there is no place to hold onto the thing to do stairs. Overall, this may be a good vacuum for bare floors and very low pile carpet (like berber), but on any heavier pile it can be an exhausting nuisance to use, and that is even after I removed the "scraper" from the bottom to make it easier. It has to be carried since it will not roll on carpet except when in the vacuum position, and it cannot do stairs. I cannot recommend this vacuum for anyone with other than bare floors or very low pile carpet, and with no stairs, but then only marginally. UPDATE: Have used this vacuum a bit more, and I hate it even more. I adjusted the brushes to the "Old" positon so they help pull the unit along, but it is still hard to use on our medium pile carpet. Add that there is no place to hold the vacuum except the top handle, and it becomes hard to maneuver anywhere around furniture, and stairs are completely out of the question. It is called "Commercial" for a reason, because an office is about all it is good for. There has to be a better vacuum out there, but I'm still searching. 1-Star, and that is generous.

Top Notch as Always
I had my last Oreck for 21 years. So, of course when I broke it, I bought another. I broke my old Oreck, it didn’t break itself. The motor was still running strong. I had replaced a couple parts over the years, but once again, things that we broke … puppy chewed through power cord, etc. Okay, on to my review of my new one! I love it just as much and believe there is no other vacuum on the market that could keep up with pet hair in our home. We have three German Shepherds (very heavy shedders, over 100 lbs each) that live inside with us. We also have two twenty pound, long haired cats. I thoroughly vacuum with my Oreck daily, and run my robot vac in between. This new Oreck sucks the pet hair and sand (we live in rural Florida on dirt road and driveway) out of our rugs like a champ! People who are saying this is not like the old Oreck quality are mistaken. I used my old Oreck one day and this new one the following evening, and the new one is actually stronger! I vacuum so often, I know exactly how my rugs look after on pass with each. To address some other negative reviews - It’s not too loud! It’s equally as loud as any vacuum. If you want silence, use a broom. I prefer to vacuum all hard floors, as sweeping throws a lot of dust particles into the air to breathe, and I have dust allergies and asthma. As a side note to that, owning an Oreck has vastly improved my quality of life, as it vacuums so deeply. My asthma has been under control since owning one - 21 years. Another complaint I read is that the cord is too stiff and thick. Well, it’s a powerful vacuum, the cord needs to be heavy duty to be safe! And over time, it relaxes, making it quite easy to wrap. Other people are saying this vacuum is heavy! It’s not heavy at all. It only starts to get heavy with all the crap it pulls out of your carpets and off your floors - much more than other brands. You are only supposed to let the bag get about 1/3 of the way full before changing. And by that time, it contains quite a few pounds of dirt, dust, sand, hair, and whatever else. If my grandma self, with some physical disabilities can lift it, anyone can. And finally, I have read that the cord it too long. This was the most shocking because it’s something I always loved about my Oreck. I don’t have to change outlets as often. In my opinion, the long cord is a pro, rather than a con. I did wait a week before writing this review, and I will absolutely update it if, for some reason, things go south with my new Oreck. I also absolutely adore the patriotic colors! I hated to see my pretty yellow one go, I was very happy to not have to get plain gray. I also like that the bag on the new one is a dust proof material, unlike the old fabric ones. Great improvement! Unlike most people, I love vacuuming. I am sort of a vacuum connoisseur. I have tried out many other vacuums, as my adult daughters purchased them. They all own Orecks now, after going through lots of others. And I was older when I got my first Oreck, so had used plenty others in my life. Here is a test to do that originally sold me on my first one - Thoroughly vacuum your home with your old vacuum. Get the floors, carpets, and rugs to the place where you think there is nothing left down there. Put a brand new bag in your Oreck and go over it all again. You will be shocked at what comes out of a “clean” floor!

Consumer priced commercial-quality vacuum
This vacuum has been the best investment for our house over the past several years. Is it on the loud side, yes. Does it have all the bells and whistles of a Dyson, no. But I don’t need all that fluff. I wanted a vacuum that cleaned like nobody’s business with superior suction power & that’s exactly what I got. Simple to set up, super long cord, high quality vacuuming action, and it’s cleaning power are second to none. Can you go out and buy a commercial rig for 3x the price? Sure, but why would you? 736 cubic inch storage capacity replacement bags are inexpensive when you buy in bulk, and will last months (depending on your houses’s dirt, dust & pet hair levels). No fuss, no muss when swapping out.

Does one job, and does it well.
Basic setup for a vacuum; no additional hoses, extensions, ect. It vacuums like a traditional upright vacuum, and it works very well. Very good suction; I have a couple of black runner mats in my laundry room which show every bit of lint, hair, and other debris, and this vacuum cleans them up in short order without missing much on the first pass. Its also relatively light and easy to carry around, so if weight is a concern, this vac would be a good choice.
