Really good against light rain.

Q: Within the three main pockets, how many additional zippered and sewn in pockets are there in total?

The main compartment has a pocket that holds my tablet easily. The next zippered pocket has a small pocket that would be good for larger phones and a dedicated phone pocket that holds my smallish phone and an additional two pen pockets. The front flap and back panel are padded, so everything feels secure. There is also one zippered pocket on the back, that is about 5.5 X 9.5 inches. The bottle holder pocket on the outside is secure while walking, but not if you bend over or move around a lot. I hope that helps!
