The Creation Story for Children

Kids didn't like the pictures
Used this book in children's ministry (have a range of kids from 3-11), and the kids were put off by the pictures. I read many reviews, stating how beautiful the pictures are, and, while they are realistic looking, I agreed with the kids. Specifically, there is a picture with a swirling cloud (to represent the Holy Spirit) and Adam and Eve holding a Koala. The kids in my class looked at the picture and looked at me and were like ???? They wanted an explanation, and I didn't have one. One girl was like, "That is weird!" Initially, when I ordered the book and opened it for the first time, I was very put off by the pictures as well, especially the aforementioned one. Based on the reviews, I expected something more. I did use the look inside feature, which doesn't show everything, but I had no idea that most of the pictures would have really dark backgrounds (understandable since it's a creation story, and I expected this for the first few pictures). The backgrounds in this are mostly dark throughout. I was hoping for something more colorful and bright. With a younger group, the KJV translation is a little difficult. I had to stop often to explain the meanings of certain words to the little ones in my class. So, if you are interested in this book, keep that in mind and consider the age(s) of the child/children you plan on reading to or giving this to. After such high reviews, I really have to say, yes, this follows the creation story, but I wish that I had either picked a different picture book or simply read straight from the Bible on this one.

Beautiful Bright Illustrations.
Good book, beautifully illustrated. Love that it covers the story of creation on a child's level. Would have been a little better if it was more of a story book, but it is actually more of a verse of Genesis, and then the author kind of does a question section on each page. Resource book is definitely more helpful in actually teaching the concept of Creation to young children, as well as the Bible itself. Would use this more as a companion than an actual story book.

The best, most accurate Creation book for kids
I've read a lot of Creation books, trying to find the right one, and I finally found it with this book. It is biblically and scientifically accurate. Many other books add to what we know in Genesis, such as saying there were seasons, or rainbows, etc. This book does not do that, but explains confusing parts of the Creation story, such as what it means that God created light before creating the sun. The illustrations are excellent. We see Eve petting a lion, we see cactus plants but without out the thorns. Cactus do photosynthesis differently from other plants, so it is important they are included in the drawings, but without thorns, which would have happened after the Fall. I liked this book so much (which I found at the Library!), that I bought 3 other of her books.

This book is a must to explain creation to children. Pictures are beautiful. Do not look like cartoon characters as some do. Adam and Eve are like real people. You can see no clothes, but you don't see them as naked. Book is great!!!
