Decent book, information is well organized. Author uses out dated information, and "test banks" dont match book content
The content in the book itself is well organized. Studying pre-test can easily only consist of going over lab values and the information boxes. The chapter objectives are also pretty clear and help when outlining content. On the negative side:Some of the information is 10-15 years old. While many things are still the same in nursing, many things are also not. It seems like the author wanted to inject her opinion more than what the more recent (past 5 years) of research says. You can't stress the importance of evidence based practice and use outdated information. There is also a problem with the "test banks" issued by the publisher. You can tell the person who wrote the questions didn't actually base it on the book. You can catch blatant contradictions in questions vs book content often. This means you have to have regular post-test meetings with your teachers and fight for your grade. I do consider this problem both an issue of the publisher, and the nursing staff at my school (as they should be proof reading test).

2-vol set a great alternative to 1-vol version for med-surg completeness
Jeez, Iggy sure is exhaustive! But then, med-surg really requires a broad knowledge base, so it's got to be. I definitely like the portability of the 2-volume set, although I often have both volumes in my rolling tote in lecture, since we're covering so many chapters per week. At least I can just plunk one volume at a time on my portion of the lecture hall table. Iggy provides a LOT of tables, photos, diagrams, and illustrations, all of which help clarify the concepts.Although the 8th ed. was required for my cohort, I'm getting along fine with the 7th ed., for those that are also trying to economize on textbook prices. Iggy's writing is quite concise in most chapters, covering a huge amount of information in each paragraph. (I do appreciate a textbook author who doesn't belabor points or get caught up in their own verbal brilliance.)I'll update this review at the end of N school to give my impression of how well this text prepared me for the NCLEX-RN.

Great Price
I received this book along with all my other required books in a timely manner and I paid a great deal less for them then I would have if I purchased them from my colleges bookstore. Book was brand new as described and wrapped in protective cellophane. The only drawback to this particular book (set) is that it is paper back and a pretty large one at that. Since starting this semester I have learned that it is also available in a hardback and I would recommend springing for that version if you can.

the 2 volume set is great! makes lugging these books around much easier
the 2 volume set is great! makes lugging these books around much easier. the only drawback of the 2 volume set when you pick up the wrong volume to take to class or study group. textbook its self is very wordy, and some of the point specific boxes are just as wordy.

satisfied.
personally, I prefer this brand of med-surg book to Brunner and Suddarth's.Ignatavicius' is easier to read and understand the points of each disease, treatment, etc. to me.and I liked its form of paperback, which makes it better to carry, and reduces the burden on my shoulders.

a great deal for a set with good material
So worth the savings---Minimal highlighting, some bent pages but all in all, a great deal for a set with good material. RN-Return to Practice course wanted us to have VOL 8, but for savings of $125+, I opted for this older version which seems to only lack "Care of the Transgender Patient."

Med Surg Book
My nursing school made it a requirement for all three of our med surg classes to have this book. It has been a very good textbook, mostly easy to read. There are some chapters that go into elaborate anatomy, etc. but for the most part it gives just the right information. I have gained a lot of knowledge by using these books.
