Bewley's Irish Afternoon Tea - 80 Bags (8.8 ounce) | 8.8 Ounces

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I had never tasted Bewley's Irish Afternoon Tea before. However, my mother was Irish and my sister and I grew up drinking tea with milk and sugar. Whenever we were upset, my mother would always say "How about a nice hot cup of tea?" and that would make things better! Anyway, because the reviewers spoke so highly of this tea I decided to try it and I am very glad I did. It is just delicious - I can't think of any other words to describe it. Soothing, thirst-quenching, no "after-taste". Just right. As soon as I received my box of Bewley's today I made myself a cup, then heated it in the microwave to make it extra-piping hot, sat down and enjoyed it. The only thing missing... I wish my mother and sister were still here to enjoy it with me...

This is a robust tea, not quite as strong as PG Tips, but really flavorful and a little different than Tips. It brews nicely and makes a nice pot in the afternoon to have with muffins and scones - or just by itself. We'll have it on a dark, cold, snowy winter afternoon and it almost makes the sunshine come out. The Irish know how to blend tea, and this is one of the best.

I have searched high and low for a tea to replace my favorite PG Tips Special Blend, which they discontinued. I went so far as to order tea directly from England--to no avail. Everything seemed too weak or it wasn't the flavor I was after. I did discover that I prefer African to Indian teas, and I think that is what is in Bewley's Irish Aftertnoon Tea. When I took my first sip of the first cup, I almost said, "Eureka, I have found it!" It is strong and dark and stands up admirably to the sugar and milk I must have in my cuppa. In fact, it is so strong, that I have made a nice glass of iced tea from one bag. I am very relieved to have found this flavorful brew! I may stop drinking coffee altogether!

It is a very nice tea. But it is a tea in a tea bag which makes it not as good as loose tea in flavor, but it is convenient.

Several years ago, I travelled to Ireland. I enjoyed the tea so often I had to ask what kind it was. Bewley's. Even the complimentary packets of tea in the hotel rooms were often Bewley's. When I came home, I had no luck finding Bewley's in any local stores. I order it online and have always been happy with the product, the packaging, and received quick shipping. My favorite is the Irish Afternoon Tea. It is a smooth, fragrant blend of black teas. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good cup of black tea.

About 10 years ago while visiting disneyworld in orlando florida my wife and I met a nice english couple. Being a tea drinker I inquired about good english teas and they gave me a napkin with the names of bewleys tea on it and about 6 teabags for me to try. I put the napkin in my back pocket and the teabags got wrapped up in an old sandwich bag and put in my wife's purse. We parted with the nice english couple and as we traveled around disneyworld it began to rain that afternoon and we got soaking wet. I found what was left of the napkin that evening at the hotel and it was unreadable. About 6 months later at home the bag fell out of my tea closet as i was fixing to make a cup and I decided to finally try the tea those nice folks from england raved about. I loved the tea and I believe I have finally found it in bewleys. Some of the best tea I have had. The english surely know their tea.

I'm a newcomer to Irish teas. This tea is fine if you drink it with milk, but I prefer not to, and it's very bitter and unpleasant if you drink it by itself. Don't try it if you take your tea with no sugar or milk.
