Pattern looks etched - not forged
I use knives every day and sharpen them as well. I did a bit of digging to land on this particular knife regardless of its origin being from China. There are some Japanese steels that go to China for assembly, but I'm not convinced this is one of them. The pattern looks "too perfect" and has the feel of etching. I own two hand made Damascus knives that are VERY different in weight, pattern and texture.Since I am more utilitarian with knives, the aesthetics are not as important as function and edge wear.I inspected this knife with a magnifier and could not find any defects, micro-chips, or bends.A bit overpriced for what it "claims" as damascus steel, and I would assume that's why it's at this price point. It is quite sharp - as others have stated - but I do not expect it to hold that edge under the work load I put a knife through. Even a Shun will need edge care from time to time. We'll see how robust this thing is when I'm done with it.

The handle is too short.
The craftsmanship of this knife is downright stunning. You can really see the fishbone pattern of the Damascus steel when the light hits it right. I trialed 5 knives of this size, all of similar craftsmanship and I might have kept this one if the handle had been longer. You can see the brands of most of the other knives in the picture of all the boxes. The Kamosoto (pictured on the scale) was the one I kept. It had a gorgeous Damascus pattern and the handle fits in the hand perfectly. I sharpened it to a razor sharp edge and the steel is very hard. I literally lathered up my left arm and shaved it clean with that knife and it's holding that edge well so far.You can see the breakdown of all the other knives in my review of this knife here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C56S3SJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1They were all good knives, but for one reason or another the Kamosoto came out ahead of them all.

Not damascus steel, seller lies.
It is a pretty knife and seems to be very sharp. I haven't had a chance to put it to a test yet ... However I am very unhappy that the seller lied about it being damascus steel and the pattern is definitely lazered on. I don't like being lied to so I will not be buying from this company again. Shame on you.

Disappointed
I bought this set for my daughter. It says 7 piece Japanese kitchen knives set so I was really disappointed when she said she had only gotten 1 knife. She said it’s a great knife and she likes it but there’s only one knife. Had I known this, I wouldn’t have bought it.

Quality control issues, might return.
Overall the quality and craftsmanship are ok. Two minor issues. First the pins on the handle are not entirely flush with the scales. The edges are a little sharp and might need to be addressed. The other issue is whoever gave the edge it's final sharpening gouged a small section. Overall small issues but ones in my opinion shouldn't be there.UPDATE: I did return, pin edges were too sharp for my wife's liking. Purchased the yousunlong slicer with walnut handle. Definitely recommend the yousunlong.

Not VG10, Not Damascus, Cheaply made, uneven handle, disappointed
The knife feels cheap. I am upset I paid so much for it. The handle does not line up with the metal so it feels rough. The sharpness only lasted through cutting a few carrots and celery. The Damascus is lazered on and finally the metal is not vg 10 what so ever.

Handle Shrunk
For what seems like a high-quality knife, the handle shrunk after purchase, so now I feel the tang of the handle scraping my hands every time I use this knife. Other knives in this collection are incredible, but I received a POS.

Good quality! It can be used instead of two or three knives
I usually like to use this knife to cut vegetables, its rectangular blade has a very sharp edge, I can use it to cut vegetables, peel fruits, crush garlic cloves, boneless and mash meat, I believe it is an ideal knife for anyone who wants a knife for many food preparation tasks.I bought this kitchen knife three months ago, and its quality is very good. I will use the whetstone to keep it sharp. Every time I use it to cut food with acid ingredients such as tomatoes or citrus fruits, I will clean the kitchen knife in time, so as to prevent it from being damaged.

False Advertising
The knife came sharp and it looks nice. HOWEVER, this is not Japanese made, nor is it Japanese steel and the pattern is laser etched on it’s not a true Damascus. The advertising is misleading. This is a knife made in China of Chinese steel.

Not a japanese knife
It says Japanese on the description but the box says made in China. It is not a high quality blade, did not come in very sharp, not sure if I will be able to get it sharp or if it will hold its edge. Definitely disappointed will never buy a knife on Amazin again.

a handsome, quality knife
I enjoy working with the knife. The only slight disappointment is the finish of the handle: the tang in the handle protrudes ever so slightly from the surrounding handle material so that one can feel a tiny rough "edge" when one runs one's hand around the handle when or using it or drying it. Not as smooth as the finish on my similar Sunnecko paring knife handle, but they don't offer a similar boning knife. Still like the blade style, quality and price point enough to keep it.

Beautiful, sharp, great value!
I am a professional chef in the industry, I bought this as my new daily knife and it has not disappointed me! Every cook in the kitchen wants to get a turn using it!Beautiful real Damascus folded steal. The edge stays sharp for a very long time! It performs just as well as my shun knives that cost 4 times the price! Great value, easy to hold, and very satisfying to chop with!
