I need to know does it have a hook four the strap?

Mine has a strap button at the base of the guitar and at the base of the neck.

do i need to plug this into an amp for it to work? can i use it with an amp and also without one? or, does this bass sound acoustic?

Good Morning Mike,You have the option of either playing it as an Acoustic or Electric . When it is not being used with an Amp it has Deep Rich Sound and is an awesome piece of Musical Equipment. When it is Plugged into an amp you have a wide range of different Sound that you can Achieve such as Distortion and Overdrive for that Heavy Metal moment when you want, or with a few tweaks of the onboard controls you can have a Clean Classic Bass Sound and even a slapping Funk Sound as well.
