Picture doesn't due this justice
I bought this cabinet in cherry, and it it absolutely beautiful. Well constructed and holds so much more than I thought it would. This company is not stingy with its shelves either; mine came with 18 of them. Ease of construction: okay, admittedly, if you're not MacGyver, look at the instructions. I didn't need to, it was simple enough to figure out. There are no written instructions, just pictures, which are very clear. It would probably take 2 people less than 30 minutes to put this together. I am single, barely 5' tall, and I put it together by myself in less than an hour. You put the sides and the middle together and join it to the bottom piece. Then you slide the nearly 6 foot back pieces into the grooves on the sides and bottom piece. However, the back pieces are not as stiff as I would have liked them to be, and they bowed in the middle, making it impossible to line them up with the groove in the bottom piece. You cannot stand the unit up at this point because there is nothing to support the sides and they will snap off and your unit will be useless. You can put your hand under the back piece and line it up with the groove, but unless you have a 6' arm span, you can't reach to top of the back piece to push it down into the groove. Here's where watching all those MacGyver reruns came in handy. I went and got a sponge mop out of the closet. I put my left hand under the back piece, lined it up with the groove, picked up the mop with my right hand, hooked the top sponge part over the top of the back piece and pulled it down. Took a few tries but it worked. Then putting on the top piece was a piece of cake. One word of warning - before you put the top piece on, double check that the bolt in the center piece is tight and is holding both sides together or you will have to take the entire unit apart and re-do it. The glass is a snap to put in, however, the sliders for the doors only have 2 of the 4 holes pre-drilled. If you look at the picture, it shows only 2 screws inserted and two holes empty. This is a bit confusing. I simply screwed in all four screws (supplied) in each slider and it works just fine. The only thing I would suggest to the manufacturer is it would be nice to include a few extra pieces of hardware in case one breaks or gets lost. Two weeks after spending $300 for this cabinet, Amazon began offering the same unit by a different maker, for half the price. I don't know what quality the less expensive unit is, but this one is meant to last a long time, the doors are easy to slide, and the unit is beautiful. You would not know this is veneer and not solid wood by looking at it. Well worth the money. One thing I would like to mention is the packaging. If UPS used the two boxes it comes in as footballs, I don't think the unit would suffer any damage. This cabinet is so well packaged you could probably drop it off the truck and it would be fine. I was totally blown away by the care this company takes to get the cabinet to you in excellent condition. Not one scratch or dent. Way to go Leslie Dame! Would definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting a high-quality piece of furniture to hold their media collection. Shelves adjust for CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes.

Great Quality!!
I bought two of these units to hold paperback books (and smaller hardback books). This cabinet looks fantastic when assembled.1) This does NOT look like the typical fake wood. It has a hardwood covering so it looks like it is completely made of actual hardwood. It is very sturdy. This looks more like something you would get at a nicer furniture store or perhaps from Pottery Barn.2) It is very simple to put together. I had this out of the box, put together, and everything cleaned up within an hour and a half, working by myself. It comes with all of the pieces and a small screwdriver to be used when putting in the glass panels- you need a normal screwdriver to do the rest. The instructions are very basic pictures, no real text, but it is so easy to figure out it is not a problem.3) The packaging from this seller is amazing. It arrived looking quite beaten up, but it is double boxed and very well packaged. No damage to one of the units in any way (more on this later).4) This is sold as a cabinet for dvds and cds. However, after doing some measuring, I purchased it to hold paperback books and smaller hardback books. It is the perfect size. Normal bookshelves are much too deep for these smaller books and you end up with a lot of wasted space on the shelf. I wanted a more shallow unit for the hallway upstairs and this is perfect.5) The front doors do make the unit slightly heavier toward the front, but if you put larger/heavier items or the leftover shelves in the bottom of the unit there is no danger of it tipping over during normal use. I had 8 shelves left over for each unit, so I stacked 4 shelves in the bottom of each side. It raises my books up higher so I can see them easier and helps with the stability of the unit. You might have a concern if you have small children in your home, in which case you should anchor the unit to the wall.Now- even though the packaging is great, one of the units did arrive damaged. A side panel had a split in it and the glass for one of the doors was completely shattered. Since the packaging is so good I think it more likely that this happened during packing and not during shipping, but who knows. I have contacted the seller about this and will update as to the customer service for replacement of these pieces. All in all, I highly recommend this product. It is the best quality furniture item I have ordered online and well worth the price paid.***UPDATE: Today I received the replacement parts for my second cabinet, this time nothing was damaged at all AND they sent two extra panes of glass so now I have extra in the event one gets broken. All free of charge. I got a reply from the seller less than an hour after contacting them, and shipment confirmation the next day. UPS took their time delivering it, but that is not the seller's fault. Highly recommend this seller (AVthing in its Place) AND the product.
