Beautiful remake, true to the original
Having played the original, I had my expectations set pretty high. This remake surpassed them. I loved the older graphics of the original sprite work, but the remake uses a very nice - almost story book-like - art style that seemed to be inspired by the original promotional art. They follow the original layout very faithfully, from the personality test (although it seems like the results for the girl's nature look like they were switched for charmander and bulbasaur) to character dialogues.Improvements were definitely needed in the original, and the remake fixed those like better AI (escort missions back then were killer) to being able to increase your bag slots and more diverse move pools. The dojo changed for the better, making it a great place for quick level gains and to power up moves. Actual cutscenes were added, making those encounters with the legendary pokemon even more dynamic! Having strong foes in dungeons adds a challenge with good rewards. It's pretty cool you can recruit shiny pokemon, but it's only limited to a select few. Love the little throwback with them using the original sprites when heading to the camps! At first, I didn't like how they removed the basic attack and forced you to use an actual attack that used PP, but with the rate that elixirs appear on floors, it balanced out. The revamped gummy system was interesting. Much easier and simplified. Basically giving pokemon a second ability, but certain ones on specific pokemon can make them pretty over powered.A few things I wasn't a fan of were the auto mode (I personally didn't see the point in letting the game play itself essentially) and being able to see everything on the map. Yes, there's an equitable item that allows you to do that, but it gives you the option to equip it instead of having it the effect constantly around. Luckily the post game dungeons do away with it for a bit more challenge.Since you can save preset teams, it would've been great if you could send those out to take care of some missions while the team you use take care of others, since you can accept so many quests. And this one is small, but I really would've liked it when you and your partner evolve, you still keep your scarf.Overall, I loved this remake. It's nice to know this spin off series wasn't forgotten and it gives me hope for an Explorers of Sky remake possibly.

Amazing Refresh of the Classic!!!
This game is truly amazing! As mentioned elsewhere, this is a remake and update from the original Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue/Red Rescue Team. The mechanics have been updated so that your partner Pokemon are smarter than the original game (they avoid traps, actually help you defeat enemies, pick up items, use items appropriately, etc). Also, some minor in town improvements help to add a modern mechanic and feel to the game while still staying true to the original feel and gameplay. The art is amazing! It appears as if everything was hand drawn and crafted in detail. If you observe the movements of the Pokemon, the cut scenes, and in town detail, the graphic designers put a lot of effort into them to make them realistic while maintaining the style of hand drawn art and the original game. For example, if you observe Pidgey and its evolution chain, you can see its wings flap and move realistically (within the context of it being hand drawn). If you are a fan of the original, this game is perfect for you, or if you are a Pokemon fan or want to experience a dungeon crawler, then this game is great! Items from later games have been added so there are a greater number of items to collect and fairy types have been added. One disappointment is that, while the Pokemon are smarter (both partner and foe) the partner Pokemon still lack some practicality. For example, I had recruited a few Pokemon in an early dungeon, and I lead my team through a hallway. However, an enemy entered the room that still contained a couple of my teammates. Even though the game added the element that your team actually follows the leader (which is great) and does not engage in every single battle, the enemy Pokemon began to use distance attacks against my team. The Pokemon that it was hitting did not move or try to get out of the way. It just stood there and fainted. So, even though the AI has improved drastically since the first games that these are based off of, it still falls a tiny bit short in this area and a few others. However, those points are minor and the game is great and is a very well done update/refresh on a classic that still maintains the integrity of the classic while adding many small modern features that take advantage of the updates of computers. Definitely one to buy, and I hope they come out with similar updated games for one or more of the rest of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series!

Cute, kiddy, challenging, not for everyone
I always warn people about rouge type RPGs like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, because those games are so different from the usual J-RPGs and/or action RPGs that are mostly played. Usually, you have a party of two Pokemon (your main, and your permanent partner), but as you progress, you can have quite a lot of allies with you on your dungeon explorations, however it CAN get overwhelming to try and keep up with more than 6 allies with you. Mostly, those allies join you while you are exploring (I myself have only gotten allies this way), but I have read you can add allies before entering a dungeon, which will help greatly when overcome by greater challenges. Unlike usual rouge type RPGs, your Pokemon's levels don't go down back to 1 when you exit a dungeon, but you don't get much item storage, and you lose money if you lose inside the dungeon, so that's why the items and money banks are important. Sadly, I have not played too far into the game, so I can't give you a more in-depth review. I would still recommend this game for anyone thinking it over.
