absolutely fantastic and original album
I am paying £10 to see Finch this spring...you know why? because Brand:New are supporting them. This album is absolutely brilliant. It has been in my Cd player regularly since November. The track "Mixtape" was recommended by a canadian friend of mine and i really liked it so i obtained more songs before eventually buying the album.More than half of this albums songs could be picked out as stand out songs, lyrically the album constantly shifts gears and is very thought provoking,it reminds me of Sublime when Brand New use upbeat poppy riffs in songs with very dark subject matter. This album comes highly recommended to people who are a bit disolussioned with pop-punk and its predictable format and want to try something a little different,or people who are into heavier emo bands and like a lighter touch from time-to-time.The lyrics always hit the points and are relatable to most people, while the songs always remain accesable and catchy.Like all good albums, you just keep coming back for more.stand out songs-"mixtape"-"failure by design"-"seventy times 7"

Wonderfully messed up take on pop-punk songs about girls
Brand New have the melody of a band pushing for a major label deal - see the "we're not in high school" refrain on Last Chance To Lose Your Keys" - but break the mould of songs about having your heart broken; some songs are about wishing their ex-girlfriends were killed in a variety of horrifying ways. The no-seatbelt song is self explanatory and Jude Law and a semester abroad wishes a plane crash on an ex moving to the good old UK! Lyrically they kind of remind me of Alk3 mixed with Saves The Day. If you like pop-punk in the vein of the ataris but are looking for something that departs from their formula try this.

This album resonates a generation
As a typically passionate Brand New fan, I feel obliged to defend this album against the people who deem it to be just another 'emo' album that bemoans the troubles of a middle class adolescent. There is no denying that this album holds true to such themes but it is the wit and originality of Jesse Lacey's lyrics, which makes this album remarkable. The mark of a great poet is the ability to use common and perhaps even clichéd symbols in an original way and in'Your Favourite Weapon', this is exactly what you will find. Jesse Lacey has admitted that at the time of this release, the band were not as good musicians as they could have been and this is probably why it is often overlooked. However, the quality of lyrics, despite being about similar themes to the bands they are usually lumped in with, differentiate themselves from the genré. There is also a deep honesty about songs such as 'Seventy Times Seven', which adresses Jesse's best friend, Jonh Nolan of 'Taking Back Sunday', after he slept with his girlfriend and 'Soco Amoretto Lime', which aches pathos as it uncannily recreates the emotions a young adult feels, as he yearns to 'stay eighteen forever.'That said, there is much to love musically about this album, with a range of catchy riffs, such as in 'Jude Law And The Semester Abroad' and more melodic songs such as 'The No Seatbelt Song". Mixtape is probably the best musically and shows signs of the style showcased in 'Deja Entendu'.All in all this is a brilliant album and certainly a cut above all its competition. If you are a middle class teenager, then you will love this album and if not, there will definitely be a nostalgic feel to it that you can really appreciate too. Probably not the best 'Brand New' album but by far the best album of its genré and well worth listening to.

Brand New-this is not pop punk
Ive been listening to Brand New for a couple of months now and a band this good cant stay unnoticed for much longer. Supporting Finch this spring in the UK its only a matter of time before their name starts appearing in tip-ex on scruffy moshers bags and teenage girl's homework diaries all over Britain. Which is a shame because they are above that. Their sound is a skillfull blend of acts like Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World and the Get Up Kids with a hint of punk thrown in for fun. When they say in Failure by design "we don't believe in filler baby" they aren't lying. The songs are consistently excellent however my personal favourites are Mix Tape, Magazines, Soco Ameretto Lime and (undoubtedly sure to be their first single) Jude Law and a Semester Abroad. Buy this album now and enjoy them before they slowly lose their credibility. They also have a Split CD with Safety in Numbers which is extremely hard to obtain due to the limited amount produced...
