Wonderful, engaging stories that give great insight into the lives of people of different backgrounds and social classes...mostly of Jamaican heritage...though the very moving stories touch the human soul and teach universal lessons and insights. Surprise twists and turns draw the reader in and hold you there! Told from the various perspectives of the protagonists, the feel and language of each speaker provide authenticity in a natural and easy-to-read way. Oliver Senior is well-known in the Caribbean (her books have been required reading in many school curricula for some time) and it is great to see her writing become more well-known. Highly recommended along with her other short stories and poems.

I heard an interview with the author and based on that decided to purchase this book. It is a wonderful collection of short stories. Her writing is clear, the characters are complex and interesting. This book was a delight and I look forward to reading more by Olive Senior

I bought it for my mother and she really liked it. It brought back a lot of memories for her.
