Garage Door Torsion Springs 2" Pair, 0.207X2"X22",Replacement Kit

After watching videos and reading posts about this being so dangerous to do I measure my springs and ordered a set. I called a local store and this set with bars was about 30 less than what they had. Plus they wanted to sell me two different sized springs (for a double garage door) which I felt that while it would work I felt that a matching set makes more sense. I understand how people can say this is a dangerous job and if you cut corners and don't make safety the top priority then don't do this yourself. I had no problems with the install. My only hiccup was my mounting bar needed a little sanding to get over some spots but the install was easy. Just make sure you take it slow and do not work directly in the line of the winding holes. Tension at 7 and 1/2 turns was about right for my door but I did 7 to start and tested and it was a little too heavy to lift still so 7 1/2 was just right. I didn't feel at all in danger but don't do this without a set of winding bars and I would get a square socket for the set bolts too (just makes it easier) Also, people often ignore their springs but you should absolutely inspect and lubricate your springs once a year as well as check your other door hardware. I can't speak to the longevity on these as I just put them up but they seem fine. If they happen to fail in the next few months which I doubt then I will update but for being the first time I have ever done a spring replacement on a garage door, I felt it wasn't to hard. For reference I do my own car repairs and construction projects and have for decades so it wasn't a stretch for me and I always prioritize safety and a clean workspace and I would recommend that to everyone - don't tempt fate because fate loves fubar.

Excellent, solid set of springs. The included winding rods are top notch, solid & great fit. My garage door is heavy, hurricane-reinforced double width door and old set of springs were no longer offering much of lift assistance. After I removed them I discovered they were also of different length (!?). I ordered oversized set and now everything is back to perfect. Watch some videos on youtube, proceed slowly and carefully and you have it done in an hr or so, saving hundred$ in process. I suggest attaching 2 oversized locking pliers to the center rod, clamped on at max locking pressure, as you wind up the springs, in my case the single plier wasnt enough. Remember than unbalanced door is not only repeatedly wearing out your garage door opener, but also makes is impossible or extremely hard to manually open the door should electricity go out, potentially a dangerous or outright deadly situation. Lastly and still importantly, you have to be able to lift up to may be 30lbs with your dominant arm, repeatedly, using the rods as levers, as you tension the springs during the install. If unable to do so, seek a helper.

Easy enough to replace. One of the springs broke so I replaced them both. Just watch a youtube video or 2 and see what a cake walk this is and recommended safety precautions prior to attempting. While you're at it, go through and hit all of the nuts and bolts and make sure everything is tight, lube anything that needs it (NOT with WD40), and once it's all buttoned back up, cycle the door a few times in case you need to make any fine adjustments on your opener, if you have one. Be sure to double and triple-check your measurements before ordering so you have the right springs for the job. These were perfect for my specific application. Note that my garage door gets very little use, so this was more of a weekend project, and I have no clue how well these inexpensive springs will hold up over time. Fingers crossed they last at least 5-10 years.

This can be a dangerous DIY so wear leather work gloves so you can get a strong grip on everything (especially when winding and unwinding the springs) and protect your hands. Don’t attempt it if this scares you or you’re not familiar with how an overhead door works. Read this entire review before you touch anything. -Red marked spring goes to your left as you face the door from inside the garage. -You wind both springs by pushing UP on the winding bars. That causes the springs to put tension on the lift cables. - -Make sure the cables are secured, equal tension and in the outside grooves that lead to the notch. -See vice grip comment below. -When tightening the bolts on the ends where you do the spring tightening, tighten them both twice every time. You’ll find after tightening the second bolt, the first one will need to be snugged up again. -The castings at the center have mold “bumps” (see photo ) that I ground flat thanks to other reviewers’ photos. It makes no sense that these are still being sold with this defect. These surfaces must be completely flat. Leaving these bumps on the castings no doubt caused the castings to fail as seen in other reviews. You’ll need a bench grinder to do this. If you don’t do this, the castings will break. -Otherwise the springs went on fine. -Per other reviews, I put my vice grips on the center bracket (photo) as soon as I removed the bolts there. Otherwise the shaft will fall out and it won’t end well as you remove the old springs and install the new ones. It’s a heavy shaft. -Disconnect the link to the electric opener from the door, unlatch it and move it back to the opener motor so you can balance the door properly manually. That means you tighten the springs so you can easily open AND close the door with one hand (some say one finger) by hand without the electric opener connected to the door. This is extremely important. Don’t skip this. -It will take about (30) quarter rotations on each spring to get it balanced. If you have 2 springs, keep the number equal +\- 3 quarter turns. I do 20 on each on and then gradually increase both (4) quarter turns at a time until you can easily fully open and close the door with one hand. **This review is not an instructional document and the author assumes no liability for its accuracy or your use of it. probably like you, I was faced with needing to replace my garage door springs and was shocked at the cost of doing that with a service. I figured I was a mechanically inclined person with YouTube, I should be all set. “Save some money,” I thought. Well, I installed them flawlessly, but I noticed that my garage door was very sluggish. I double and triple checked the number of winds on the spring. Everything was in order, but the door still felt heavy, and the lift master opener was sluggish. Not being a garage door repair person I didn’t know what that meant but Money was tight so we let it ride. Fast forward several months and the continues to get slower and slower. Finally had a garage door company to double check the work. They verified that the springs were wound correctly, but when they set the door down on their digital scale rather than weighing the target 5 pounds it weighed more than 60! Another words, the springs are garbage. They do not have anywhere near the tension and strength that they’re supposed to have. So bottom line I got the pleasure of giving Amazon my money, buying the springs and spending a couple hours installing them, only replace them not even one year later. And honestly, they probably didn’t work right from the beginnibg, but I didn’t know better. Buyer beware. You get what you pay for.

Worked exactly as expected and I saved a ton on my garage door repair. In my area they want over $1000 for a couple hours of work. Easy to find how to videos in YouTube on spring size selection and install. People are intimidated by the fact that they are springs, buts it’s really quite simple if you are handy. Big time DIY ROI.

I broke a spring and ordered these replacements at 8 PM on a Sunday evening. They went from San Antonio Texas to Louisville Kentucky on Sioux Falls South Dakota, and finally to Calgary. I was shocked to see them on my doorstep on Tuesday morning! Way cheaper than buying them locally and probably faster as well! They are super strong, you may want to try them at one full turn less than recommended (4 quarter turns). I sent them according to the recommendations and they were far too tight and the door flew to the top. After backing off both sides a full turn, they work perfectly!
