Anne of Windy Poplars
I'm still on Anne of Green Gables, but so far have not noticed the omissions of text (including Anne's prayer) that I noticed elsewhere. One thing I don't care for in this version is that it only shows chapter numbers, not names, but at least they are active links and if I had to choose one, I'd rather have full text than chapter titles. -- Of course, Anne of Windy Poplars is missing. I assume that is because it wasn't published until 1936 and is not in public domain yet. It also isn't offered separately for Kindle at this point, but hopefully if enough of us let the publisher know of our interest we can remedy that situation before long!March 19, 2010: I am at a loss as to the problems people are referring to about the font and the order of the books. I have a Kindle 1, so maybe that is making a difference. Whatever it is, my fonts are fine and the books are proper order. It is true though that Anne of Ingleside is missing. Since that was published in 1939 the problem is most likely the same as with Anne of Windy Poplars. -- You might want to download the sample and make up your own mind about the font and what is and isn't included. I continue to be very pleased with it. :-)March 20, 2010: Now I see what the problem is. There are two compilations. One has a purple cover and costs $1.00 and the other has a full color cover and costs 99 cents. For some reason, the reviews for the two different compilations have been merged and show up in both places. My review refers to the $1.00 edition with the purple cover. I checked out the sample for the other edition and it really DOES seem to be a mess. So, the negative reviews probably refer to that edition.

So good up until last, abhorrent chapter of the last book.
Picked this series up based on its inclusion in PBS' "Vote for the Great American Read" list of best-loved books, and I'm so glad I did. Anne Shirley and her family and friends saga is so wholesome and delightful. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll smile, and gain a new hope in these dark times. ADDENDUM I wrote this review before I finished reading through the end of the last, 8th book in this anthology, "Further Chronicles of Avonlea". My review still applied until I got to the last, 15th chapter, "Tannis of the Flats". After reading that 15th chapter, I had to come back on and change my review from 5 stars to 1 star.So sorry to report that last chapter as containing the vilest, totally white-person-unaware racism possible. It uses racist terms we white people sadly commonly used in the 1920s, which is when this last, 8th book was written, but could have been written by any Trump supporter/neo-Nazi today. It was horrifying to read the racist terms used, especially the sentence, "...<he> noted that this was the first time he had ever heard Tannis use the expression 'a white woman,' or any other that would indicate her sense of a difference between herself and the dominant race." Utterly grotesque to find such an abhorrent concept as a "dominant race" accepted as true in this anthology. So if you use the final chapter as a painful object lesson on how endemic racism is so casually spread and taught by white people; use it as a means of opening dialogue as to why such terms and concepts are degrading to all humanity and therefore counterproductive to a healthy, growing society, you might be better off just checking the book out of the library rather than purchasing it.My apologies to anyone who read my 5-star version of this review. I'm so very sad this anthology ended this way.

Love Anne with an E!
Watched the movie series of Anne with an E with my daughter and we loved them. I love to read because you can't get all the emotions, their thoughts, etc. in the movie as in the book. This book was wonderful. I just love Anne's character. Read it with your kids. They will love it too.

Love the classics
This, for me, was a reminder that there were times when people believed in hard work, fighting for freedom and against evil. The stories made me laugh and cry. Good read.

Good book.
I am doing a list challenge: 300 books to read once in your lifetime. This book was on the list. It is a classic. Though not Moby Dick or Les Mis, I liked it very much. Read about the author's life. Very sad, unlike her main character.

Series downloads like one giant book
My favorite series. Very frustrating that it downloads the whole series as one book. It is hard to tell how much more you have to read when you are on book 2. But great price for all the books.

Missing a whole book
Buyer beware. This is not the whole Anne series as advertised and misses out Anne of Windy Poplars /Willows in which Anne goes to be the Principal of a school.

Wunderbar!
