I’d like to learn to draw a variety of trees that I see every day and found this book very helpful.

This book is for beginners but has minimal “step-by-step” instructions. Additionally, the illustrations in this book are 99% North American, West Coast landscapes and trees. Expect lots of evergreens and rocks. The artist, Walter Foster, practiced illustrating in Laguna Beach, California, so the West Coast theme tracks.Overall this book is good for those who want to learn about basic concepts like shading in brief and who like drawing trees. But don’t expect the author to hold your hand as you struggle to draw a sugar pine, for example. You will not get the support you’re hoping for.

It's a nice book, good value for money, don't expect miracles but it does contain useful information, it's a bit thin but nothing unexpected

One of a series of Walter Foster drawing instructional books. Large size 11 x 14 inch allows for large detailed illustrations and technique hints, simple instructions. Great reference book for novice artists. All books in the series follow the same format but feature work by different artists.

Vorweg: Das Buch richtet sich nicht an völlige Einsteiger, sondern gibt eher Hinweise, setzt jedoch voraus, dass man einigermaßen schraffieren, schattieren und das Gesehene übertragen kann. Die Tipps sind in der Regel dreischrittig, was als Anleitung für Anfänger auch nicht ausreichend ist. Wenn man schon etwas Erfahrung mitbringt und ein paar Hilfestellungen braucht, um Bäume besser und präziser zeichnen zu können, dann ist dieses Buch ein toller, konziser Begleiter. Wenn man jedoch nach Schritt-für-Schritt-Anleitungen sucht, sollte man lieber eins der anderen, umfangreicheren Bücher zum Thema bestellen. Dieses hier ist doch zu verkürzt und würde unerfahrene Zeichner und Zeichnerinnen eher frustrieren, glaube ich.Ansonsten bleibt zu sagen: Es ist ein hübsches, großformatiges (fast Din A3) Buch, und die Illustrationen darin sind gut, aber nicht überragend - bei einem Lehrwerk finde ich das grundsätzlich besser, da sich Virtuosität einem zu schnell als Vorbild ins Hirn einbrennt. Kompetenz hingegen motiviert.
