This guys is awesome. He can pull many cars and goes up hills and around corners just fine. He doesn't get suck on uneven tracks either, like some said.He is heavy and well built. Not hard to change battery.Very happy with purchase!I would advise you adhere to the recomended age of 3+ because the wheels will get stuck in hair when they're too young to know betterThis is super fun!!!Picture is of him pulling many cars up a double incline, like a champ!

A worthy mail carrier!
3rd one... they work great but they do wear out with hard play. My son loves them and to me they're worth the price. For what he puts them through and as often as he plays with them, they hold up as expected. Would be nice if you could change the rubber on the wheels, but that would probably be a choking hazard.

Won't fit all tracks!!!
The media could not be loaded. Very nice quality, heavy enameled metal body and easy push button on/off switch. Good traction, will run on thin carpet as well as tracks and floors, and will tow cars nicely, at least a couple. Goes rather slow but that makes it simple for little kids to push the switch while moving. ****BUT*** it doesn't fit IKEA tracks. Major MAJOR bummer bc all of our fancy bridges and turnstiles are IKEA. I prefer those tracks bc they have tighter joints. But they are ever-so-very-slightly wider than the Melissa & Doug track pieces i have. The tracks all fit together so i assumed if it would fit one it would fit the other but the middle section is just a bit wide on the IKEA tracks and that teensy bit is enough to catch up the wheel wells of the trains and prevent the wheels from riding the groove. So the wheels spin in the air. Picture included for clarity. Overall good toy, but a greater allowance in design would make these ride so much better and i wish i wish i wish i had know they wouldn't fit!!!!

If you have a little boy that is Thomas crazy ...
If you have a little boy that is Thomas crazy you have already spent a fortune on Thomas products. Just be sure they TURN OFF the trains when done playing because the batteries don't last that long (we buy batteries in bulk now). Also if you are new to the Thomas trains be sure and note there are two different types of track and the trains don't work that well on the track they are NOT intended for. We only have the wooden track and you must put it on a flat surface with no bumps or grooves (tile floor doesn't even work so well - you really need a big piece of plywood or a Thomas table). Maybe we'll try the advanced track next year - but for now the 3 year old boy does get a lot of playtime out of these trains - he loves Thomas and all the other Sodor trains.

awesome Percy for little one to play on wooden rails
Perfect battery powered train, Percy! It goes slow for our 2 years old, but powerful enough to carry multiple cars behind. The power switch is big enough for our son as well to easily turn it on/off. It’s awesome! It works well with non-F/P wooden rails from Amazon. 5 stars, no doubt!

Ideal conditions do not exist on the Island of Sodor
The problem here is not the train itself, rather the wooden tracks that were not designed to work with electric trains. I have a couple of these electric trains and they only work consistently on tracks with wide and flat configurations. They do not work so well with sharp turns, spirals, multiple bends, or track that is not perfectly joined. These required ideal conditions do not exist in toddler world or even on the Island of Sodor. Even when all conditions are controlled (toddler is sleeping and my inner Fat Controller comes out), my extensive scientific testing and observation shows that these trains will eventually go off the rails. My theory is that the engines become cross after having to haul the same freight for extended periods around the same loop. Certainly, Gordon would say that being forced to do so would be an indignity. Given their unceasing and subservient desire to be very useful at all times, it makes perfect sense that these electric trains do not tolerate wooden track for very long. So while many reviewers are bursting their boilers over this, I've discovered them to be charmingly intolerant and fickle.

We love our little Percy who is a powerhouse around our tracks
This was one of our son's favorite Christmas gifts this year! He's 2 years old and loves the Thomas the Train characters--especially Percy, Thomas and James. This little Percy engine is a great addition to our Melissa and Doug Wooden Train set. It's easy for our 2 year old to turn it on and off. This Percy engine is much more powerful than we imagined, and he can pull (and push) quite a few other cars. We have had so much fun with the addition of three battery operated engines to our wooden railway layout. Percy is one of the strongest engines and can get around tracks well because he only has 4 wheels (the others have 6.) The battery lasts for a week or two, and it has been running quite a bit. We are so happy that we purchased this as a Christmas gift because the whole family is enjoying it. It's taken his little train layout to a whole new level! We will definitely be purchasing other battery operated engines, and we would highly recommend this Percy engine for any little train fan.

can go UP plastic garage tracks, son loves it
This is a cool toy. It will roll on the floor, on wooden tracks and even will go UP a plastic tracks. My son thinks it so neat that it climbs up his car garage tracks, as opposed to all other cars that only roll downhill. Battery lasts as long as you are good with turning it off after they are done, otherwise sometimes it goes under our sofa with the button depressed until it dies.

Un clásico de excelente calidad
The media could not be loaded.

Very well made. It's pretty heavy compare to the other types of wooden railway trains. After half a month the battery still works.

Hours of fun for the kids! Recommended.
I bought as a gift for my 3 year old nephew who is obsessed with Wooden Railways. He loves the motorised engines like this one and it keeps him entertained for hours.I've seen a lot of negative reviews on these things, stating they don't work with other brand tracks, won't pull lots trains etcThey're not designed to work with other tracks - they are only designed compatible with Mattel wooden railways (so the reality is, your third party brands may not be compatible with this product, not the other way around).I have seen train pull about 4 carriages up a bridge section and it worked fine. Yes, sure if you are planning on making a 50 carriage model of a US cargo train, it may struggle, but for normal use and playing it's pretty strong for the size and the rubber wheels grip pretty well.Another complaint is the wheels are fixed. I imagine this is because all wheels are powered and therefore to add in rotation to each set of wheels, it would become more fragile, less reliable and more expensive. Again, on official Wooden Railways tracks I haven't seen it steer off from a bend at all - works absolutely fine!Build quality seems good. The bottom is a bit difficult to open but as long as you have the right screwdriver, it should be fine (one note is you only need to open the middle screw, the two either side are safety screws for the chassis - which my poorly sighted mum tried to open for about ten minutes)! One other thing to note, it does not come with batteries, so if it is a gift, make sure you have some (AA battery).Overall, very happy with this and would recommend!

Super Percy
Super trenino, molto pesante.
