Be sure to use the correct batteries.

This light works as advertised and the holster does have the same mounting bolt pattern as the old SM2 light so it can be considered a direct replacement. The SM3 is a big improvement over the SM2, the way the unit closes is much simpler and more secure, it is smaller and uses AA batteries that are much easier to find. The unit will work with alkaline batteries but be sure to use the recommended lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries invariably start to leak and the goo that comes out of them will destroy the electronics in the light and cause it to fail.
