What goes bump in the night
If you live in the woods or country and are curious about what goes bump in the night, this book and CD will explain those noises. We kept hearing a wonderful creature but had no way to identify it. Turns out it was a screech owl (they don't hoot nor do they screech). This book has also helped identify several frogs & night birds. As a bonus, Lang has a very pleasant voice and the CD is well made. There are 15 tracks total. In each track, Lang intermixes narrative about the critters and the actual wild life sounds. The Owls track is the longest at just over 8 minutes & the sparrows track the shortest at under a minute. The track listing follows:01 - Thrushes02 - Nightjars03 - Shorebirds04 - Ducks and Geese05 - Owls06 - Frogs and Toads07 - Rails and Relatives08 - Alligators09 - Herons10 - Wrens11 - Sparrows12 - Mimic Thrushes13 - Insects14 - Mammals15 - Loons

... thrift store years ago and the kids and I loved listening to it on road trips
Picked up the cassette tape version of this at a thrift store years ago and the kids and I loved listening to it on road trips. It's great to hear the kids trying to identify the animal sounds we learned. Lang Elliott has a nice calm way of describing things and will make you smile with his impressions of the animal calls. So happy to have found the CD version now that I don't have a cassette player in the van anymore! Educational and fun, love it!

Excellent if you're east of the Mississippi in the U.S.A. Not so good if you're in other regions of North America.
I live in the Southeast, and most of these sounds were recorded in my region, thus I give it 5 stars - for me, it's a very useful guide. A number of sounds are from the Northeast, and this guide is probably OK if you're in that area. However, only a handful are from the West or Midwest, and this guide would be quite the disappointment if you wanted to use it for those regions.

Serene
This CD was awesome! I put the CD in and listen to it while siting on the porch in the evening and compare sounds. I was able to identify several night calls that I had previously wondered about. The narration and sounds were very serene to listen to. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves to listen to the night sounds around you.

A Guide to Night Sounds is a wonderful addition to our library
A Guide to Night Sounds is a wonderful addition to our library. My children love animals and it is cool to not only read about them, but to hear them as well.

Great Book
This is a simple guide to common night time creatures. I liked that it wasn't indepth, giving more detail than necessary. The CD is excellent. Lang Elliott has a pleasant voice and the sounds are clear and easily distinguished.
