Does this mat really work well for a whole sweaty bikram class with out a towel? Really want an all in one option for Bikram that works.

Accepted Answer

Yes it does. The only issue I found was when I went to class right after putting lotion on....made the mat slippery once I started sweating. I use just a vinegar and water solution to clean it and it stays tacky enough to keep me from slipping and the sweat wicks away.

Question 2

Is it safe to just use the regular tea tree oil spray to clean this mat? I'd rather not have to buy the special spray from Gaiam.

Yes...I use a mixture of  6 oz distilled water, 1oz alcohol free witch hazel, 10 drops of tee tree oil, and  5 to 10 drops of lavender or eucalyptus oil.  I have had my Sol Dry Grip Mat for a couple months (by the way best mat ever!!!) Use it 3-4 times a weeks and spray it after every class with no problems...I feel it works better than the store bought cleaning products

Question 3

I am between a kurma mat and the gaiam sol dry grip mat.  anyone ever used both of these, that can offer an opinion?

I have used both. The Kurma is very dense and supportive, but like the Maduka Pro series can be very slick to some people all the time and most people when wet. The Dry-Grip, in my humble opinion, is the finest PVC mat on the market and is my recommendation for anyone buying their first “serious” yoga mat. These two mats in particular are totally different beasts.

How sticky is this mat if you haven't started sweating yet?

The mat is not super sticky if you have not started sweating yet. However, for me, it takes very little sweat/body heat to get to the sticky point. Usually after warming up my hands are slightly sweaty, which makes the mat stick. You don't have to go to a super sweaty flow or hot class to get the best "stickiness" from this mat.
