Half the price of others Been using some older ebay fortigates for a long time they work great, but I needed VPN access and would like better filtering for my children. Setup for me was easy but this is like my 3rd HA pair of these so I knew what to expect. I enjoyed the UI improvements in 7.4 having come from 6.0. I am able to control dns better and retired my piholes. If it becomes where I am still getting ads then because these support DoH I can always forward to NextDNS. However so far so good using forti dns servers and dns filtering. If the Application control is even just as good as it was in 6.0 I am sure I will be happy with it, as when I was using the ebay models I was able to filter for my children but the application list was years old and took a lot of manual work. However it should be noted pretty good control can be achieved with manual work so even if with a new license and fresh db there is a need I know manual works.

Considering it is the “smallest” of the current generation Fortigates , it handles almost anything I throw at it (struggles a bit with high bandwidth ISCSI, but that could be my slow Comcast upload speeds). In true Fortinet fashion the unit is easy to setup and configure (once you get past the FortiOS learning curve). Never had any issues related to the unit and any technical questions were promptly answered by Fortinet support.

Good performance out of the box. Register with Fortinet / update FortiGuard, create firewall policies, and put it on the edge to ward off would-be cybercriminals!! ;-)

I've worked with a number of different firewall vendors and always come back to FotriGates when it comes to value. I like to always compare these to Palo Alto Networks as well, for what you are getting these kill PAs in value! The same sized PA would cost me thousands for both the hardware and licensing. And since this sits perfectly between a PA-220 and PA-820 it fills that middle ground for a branch office. I would say the only thing you are missing with this is the ease of setup as it can be a little more complicated until you get used to FortiOS.
