Works for most DVDs
It's easy to set up with my laptop and works well with CDs and most DVDs. I have a couple of old DVDs that play fine on a regular DVD player but that this one doesn't seem to recognize. I think it may just be that as technology improves old formats go by the wayside. Overall, a quality purchase.

Great drive!
I needed a CD/DVD drive to load old software on my new laptop that does not have a CD/DVD drive so I found this one on Amazon. At first I was a little skepticle due to the low price but I thought hey, it is still cheaper than buying the new version of Photoshop so I ordered it thinking if I only used it once and it died, it was still worth the money. Once it arrived, and it came in 2 days, it worked perfectly! It is easy to use, light, small, and very fast. It was faster than the built in drive in my wifes new Lenovo desk top PC!Great job, I would highly recommend this drive.

rumbling issue
My MS10 OS can read this CD/DVD drive. However, this device rumbles like a freight train when reading some CDs (not all CDs). I have no idea why. Also the cord is so short that it dangles from my vertical harddrive at work (that didn't come with a CD/DVD drive, hence the purchase). My fingers are crossed for longevity. Although this drive is not expensive but I still wish for a life span longer than 2 years.

DOES NOT WRITE/BURN TO DVD
Biggest issue is it will not burn to DVD writeable media. The drive doesn't even recognize the blank media. I tried DVD+R, DVD-R, and DVD+RW. It WILL burn to CD. There are tons of other drives that will burn to both CD and DVD at this same price, so why bother with this one?It also vibrates heavily and makes a very loud noise when reading from discs. It reads, but it's much louder than any other external USB CD/DVD drive I've ever used. Even with the rubber feat, it vibrated so much it slid slowly across the table top as far as the USB cord would let it.When I first took it out of the box my initial impression was very good. It had some heft to it indicating it was well built (but not so hefty it's too heavy to be portable). The USB cable tucks away nicely in a space on the bottom of the drive, so you won't lose the cable. But with the above issues I can't recommend this drive. When

Simple to connect and use
CD drive malfunctioned on all-in-one computer. Caused major problems. Locked computer up and had to go back to a restore point to get computer up and running again. Bought this and it gives me the ability to access cds and not run the risk of having the CD drive on the computer locking up the computer again. I doubt I will ever buy another all-in-one computer or at least not use the cd drive if I do.

Sure didn't last long
Got a new computer for Christmas - one of those tiny 'cube' things. They don't have 'drives' for removable media. We watch a lot of movies on our computers, so an optical drive was necessary. Ordered this one. The attached cable was really short. OK, I can deal with that. We've used it maybe a dozen times since December. 3 days ago, I found I couldn't watch a DVD. I assumed it was as a result of the Windows 10 update the night before. Last night, I threw another disc into the drive to see if I could get it to work. Nope. Rats. I just walked away and got dinner. All of a sudden (15 minutes after inserting the disc) I heard the intro music for the movie!! WOW, great!! We sat down to eat and watch the movie. 3/4 of the way through the movie, it started 'stuttering', and abrupt pauses. Ran fine again for about 30 seconds and then just quit. No drive light - nothing. Doesn't even show up as being connected to the computer. Granted, it was not expensive, but really. I would expect to get a bit MORE that what we got. Ordered a brand name drive to replace it. This one went into the trash.

Good Product good price
I am a teacher and the school system went to Chromebooks this year and I had some old programs that I wanted to download and if I was to use the internet I would have to pay again. So I was looking for an inexpensive external drive to run programs, lay music and even watch some DVD on Chromebook and this is the perfect one it is super easy to use. Open-box plugs into your ESB port and it works that's all. It runs on the laptop's battery so just 1 cord and so far it is perfect.
