Touch: Season 1

Kiefer Sutherland is a good actor, however i feel like he is trying ...
I am a high-functioning autistic. So when I heard about this who i had to check it out right away. To be blunt I was not overwhelmed. This show is based on fundamentally flawed principles. It is about a father with an autistic son who mysteriously is a "chosen one" to heal the "irregularities" and injustices of the world. When something in the pattern gets "ripped" it supposedly causes him pain, although that has never really come across at all in the series. The first problem I have with this series is the acting. Kiefer Sutherland is a good actor, however i feel like he is trying too hard or his director is on crack. I feel that his anxiety is amped up to level 100 every single second of the show, while in contrast, his son barely twitches if he doesnt have to. It makes for a very disjointed and broken feel. The child is accurately portrayed as an autistic, but with extremely complex methods of communicating with those around him. Half of every episode is Kiefer Sutherland desperately trying to get a hint from his son what he wants him to do.The second problem I have with this show is that it just does not reflect reality whatsoever. The boy escapes from custody 3 times in the first episode, climbs a high-voltage electrical tower IN THE RAIN. Someone put a bell around his neck or something. Or put him on a leash. After the 3rd episode I was grinding my teeth because I wanted to ground that kid for life. or whatever. In summary: an out-of-control autistic child who runs around forcing people to chase him around everywhere without any kind of adult supervision or control, and a father who for all appearances doesnt have a job even though they keep saying he does. I mean, if he did, he wouldnt be able to go running errands for his little boy now, could he?all in all... They had a good premise. Blew it in so many ways. Buuuuut I will keep going with this til the end and after the 2nd season i will re-evaluate and write a new review then. Until then peace be with you.

A Touch of Genius
If you are looking to get banged around with hits of adrenaline, go elsewhere. This isn't 24. But it's a supremely important series to my autistic son. He watches it and he watches again and I can't say I fully grasp what he's thinking.Especially the early episodes of "Touch" peel back the lid of the magic box a little further than the others... the fragrance drifts up and wafts about the room. I'm inclined to say that the author has Seen something... They probably succumbed to a degree to the whims of the market and turned it into a story after a time. I actually think that was fine too. It was also okay that it ended when it did. "Touch" had something to say and managed to get it said. But I long for another series that strikes as deep. I'm stealing my title from another reviewer, because she nailed it.

A BEAUTIFUL CONCEPT
Kiefer Sutherland's follow up to 24 was a 180° shift. Unfortunately, it was a concept that was much too far ahead of its time to catch fire. It was cancelled after two seasons. On viewing the first few episodes, it seemed as if Sutherland's character was somewhat of a one trick pony. I believe this may have contributed to the significant shift in plot in the second season. Many fans were disappointed with that shift, but the story line as it was, would not have held up in any case. But the basic concept was beautiful. It was about the connectivity of the universe, and the role of sacred geometry in the physical world. And on second viewing, I had far more appreciation for Sutherland's character. If you are a fan of Kiefer Sutherland, or of stories based on spiritual truth, I highly recommend this show. If only there were more.

Great, great show
Whether you consider yourself a fan of sci-fi drama, mathematics, science or a particular actor in this series you'll be pleased. I never write reviews of products or shows but this one demands it. This is a great series for people interested in String Theory or Western religions as the premise for the show is that everyone is connected in some invisible way and that each thing that happens influences something else that happens. (for example someone misses a plane and saves a bus full of kids because he had to drive)Also, I don't find it incredibly important myself because my son is older but this series is CLEAN so your kids can watch it without you wondering if someone is about to have some sex or start dropping some bad language.Con: the writing could be better, honestly. Keifer Sutherland running around all the time saying "Jake..Jake..come back...stop!" is pretty annoying. The kid pays no attention to him (as he's played off to be autistic) which is fine but all that running around calling him is way overdone. He not going to listen! He hasn't listened in the last 11 years, he's not about to start now.

Really a great student learning experience!
Several episodes in the TV series "Touch" provided unique learning experiences for my special needs math classes. "Touch" seems to help bridge the "gap" between concrete and abstract symbols -- symbols which are everywhere, but which are especially prevalent in math. This type of student (high school age) might have a particularly hard time with abstract concepts. There may also be difficulties in sequencing and drawing conclusions. Although one might think the action in the episodes would be difficult especially for a teen to follow, my observation was that students were fully engaged while watching, trying to predict the next outcome, asking for clarification, making observations and drawing conclusions that were key elements to understanding the main ideas of each episode. Their assignment was to write down at least ten symbols from each episode and also write the "important number" from each episode -- the number that kept re-curing and was the key element to solving the mystery of that particular story.

MUCH TO OFFER - WHEN ALLOWED
Martin's wife died 9/11. Now he may lose son Jake too. The eleven year old lives in a world of his own, unable to communicate - except by numbers that mystify. Martin, once an esteemed reporter, takes on menial work to be more with his boy. Urgently he needs to prove to doubtful authorities that he can cope.On a purely personal level, the situation has moving potential, but the series offers far more than that. Jake has special powers that cause him to realize when connections binding us together become disturbed. He knows what is needed to set everything back on course. If only Martin could understand the significance of the numbers he presents!Kiefer Sutherland and David Mazouz work well as father and son. There is genuine delight (and relief) as those numbers begin to make sense. Disturbingly, sinister powers-that-be recognize Jake's potential and seek any excuse to have him placed in their care. They have plans for him.Twelve episodes, the twelfth double length. In them tragedies are averted and friendships made. Events in different countries, even out in space, are ingeniously interwoven - they connected in ways never suspected. Amongst the cast Titus Welliver is of special interest, he as a lottery winner with links to Martin that surprise. With so much to intrigue, why only three stars? I was driven to distraction by the music track. For the most part it is unnecessary, achieving nothing of worth. Often it is a nuisance. Occasionally it infuriates.Examples? Most of what Kiefer Sutherland says comes from a barely opened mouth. Usually this is no problem, husky near-whispers part of his attraction. Difficulties occur whenever music competes. The height of absurdity? Jake never speaks - except to us at the start and end of each episode. Here are words of great significance, indicating why he thinks the way he does. How many viewers can honestly claim to hear all he has to say? How can accompanying music at such times be justified?Modest extras describe the aim of the series and how Jake's skills are perhaps not as far-fetched as they seem. The show has promise, but its impact is unnecessarily impaired.

A good drama
I think the drama was very good and find that Kiefer Sutherland 's performance was very good as well as the other actors . A different take from his "24" Jack Bauer character.Would recommend to any one who is fan of Tim Kring's work and Kiefer Sutherland.

Amazing
I think Touch is an amazing TV show. It is unique, well crafted and gripping and I here never been more hooked into anything. I was very disappointed when it didn't get renewed past the second season but at least I own the series so I can watch again and again. Too many decent tv shows have been cancelled and this one shouldn't be because it is amazing.
