Cranking Power
First of all this is about the lowest price point to hope for a decent reel and this one is very good. This is an awesome reel. It looked small for a 4000 series reel. In fact the spool diameter might be lacking there compared to other brands with the same size. It does cast just fine, but I would go to a different reel for surf fishing, or if I wanted extreme bomb casts for some reason. This is a great reel. What stands out most to me is cranking power and stability. For lure retrieval and fish fighting, it matches all my bass fishing bait casters, so the only downside compare to casting reels for bass fishing is having to use a bail in line management. Since, no matter what , I always take at least on spinning reel with me that is going to come with it anyway. The reel's compact size and extreme power make it pair up well with a large range of rods., huge advantage. This can go on a light , through the middler power, and up to a fairly heavy rod. It may look a little odd at the extremes, but it can definitely work with proper line sizes spooled on. It would be a great reel to get a few extra spools for. So back to the brute strength of this reel. I have half a dozen slightly below, or slightly above this price range and this one is stronger than any of them. Looks and fishes like it is as good on all other measures. The pflueger arbor 3500 at just $10 more, is good and has the advantage of the large diameter spool and comes with 2 spools , so these are my co-favorites for now.

Beefy
Anything above 4000 is gonna be heavy but for me that’s perfect. Holds line tight, drag is phenomenal, and it reels in good. Haven’t actually caught a fish with it but I’ve been fishing for over 15+ years and I know quality and craftsmanship when I see and feel it. If you need a versatile strong reel, consider this one. At $50 you can’t go wrong…

Sealed housing
I bought it for ocean fishing in the middle of the North Atlantic. With being a sealed housing, that will prevent the nessasary reel breakdown and cleaing after every use. The future will tell how good it's sealed.

Two year fallow up review.
Felt this reel is a very good buy for the money based on I own 4 made in Japan Shimano reals to compare them to. Have not fished with them yet. Chose them over Phlugers due to more BB's and significantly heavier drag. Will see how they measure up to my Shimano Symmetry reals long considered the best spinning reals under $100. The only reason why I didn't give the reel four stars was it didn't come with a spare spool. First reel I ever bought that didn't. Well I now own three Sharkey III reels and have over two seasons of quite hard use on them by my sons and I. I am 100% confident saying they are the best spinning reel under $50 you can buy. BUT I am still am disappointed they do not come with a spare spool, but I would imaging if they did they would cost 10-20% more. We use them for all artificial baits 3/8oz and less as well as for all live bait fishing. They are especially good for fishing soft plastics like Wackey rigs, Ned rigs, rubber worms and smaller creature baits as well as lighter 1/4oz swim baits and cranks that weigh under 3/8oz. Have used Power Pro braid up to 20lb test,(6lb test dia equiv), Yo-Zuri co-polymer and fluorocarbon up to 10-15lb on them and all worked with zero issues. I can now highly recommend them.
