TacStar 1081157 Side Saddle, fits 12 Gauge 6Rd Remington 870/1100/1187, Black

Got this in the mail the other day and it was an easy install on my 870. I would reccomend buying some threadlock or locktite just to make sure the threads on the bolts stay snug, but thats personal preference. Reading some other reviews, people have said that the shell carriers appear flimsy. This is not the case, they are well made polymer shell carriers, mounted to an aluminum frame (thats the part that mounts to the shotgun). They hold my shells securely( rounds up or down), and the openings on the carriers themselves are so snug and smooth I saw no chance of snagging on clothing or anything else you may have on. I did some clay shooting this past weekend, putting about 75 shells through my shotgun, and the rounds I had installed in the saddle didn't budge. Granted, they were 2 and 3/4 inch target loads and nothing heavier like 00 buck or slugs, but I think this will hold up even to the bigger loads. All in all, very satisfied and I would reccomend to anyone in the market for a side saddle for their Remington shotgun.

6 more shells is yuge, and this side saddle does a great job of holding them. Instead of using rubber knobs inside the shell holders to keep your shells in place, this TacStar sidesaddle's shell holders pinch them rather tightly instead. I prefer this method to the rubber knobs in my previous sidesaddle, which fell off from use. The TacStar sidesaddle's shell holders are built sturdily so far have kept my shells in place. I expect the shell holders to loosen up with use but I don't mind it either way.

I have used these for years. I had one on my police 870 for 15 years. I always kept it full of buck and slug and in the trunk of my unit. The Tacstar don't weaken over time due to heat or cold. I never had a loose shell in all the years I used it. I would say it's the best one on the market. I also own the Mesa Tactical side saddle. It's not bad, but you can't keep it loaded. It weakens, and you surely wouldn't leave it loaded for 15 years in the trunk of your unit. I like a no hassle, NOT I got to load, I hope they stay in. When you need your shotgun, you need it right then. You don't want to load the side saddle and then trip over shells running because they fell out. I saw a review where someone was wondering how tactical it was because it looked as though the open rings may catch on your clothes. I was on swat and on drug units for years. I kicked doors dang near everyday I worked. I have used the Glock, the AR15, and the Remington 870 as my primary firearms for police work. I never once had a clothing hangup from my 870 with the Tacstar, but I don't clear houses with a shotgun either. Thats primarily a manhunt/street clearing firearm. Leave the indoor tactical stuff to the SBR's and handguns. When the crap plasters the fan you bring out the baddest of the bad, and that's a shotgun. Put a Tacstar on it.

Installed easily on my Rem 870. I tapped in the bolts that came with it to remove the existing pins which works great (you don't need a punch). I also sealed it with blue Loctite. It fits perfectly and installs in minutes. Cartridge retention is solid regardless of shell orientation (facing up or down). Well priced high quality product that is one of the easiest most functional mods you can make to your 870. Upped the effective capacity of my 870 tactical from 8 to 14. I'm a lefty, and it makes access to the pump release on the trigger guard slightly more challenging, but not inaccessible. But since I keep mine loaded and chambered with the safety on, there is no issue with regard to rapidly chambering a round. Even if I had children in the house and stored it differently, the change in ergonomics due to adding the side saddle would easily be overcome with a little practice. Very pleased with this product.

I bought this to mount on my Remington 870 Tactical Express Blackhawk, and it fits fine, with an easy installation. Remember to keep the original receiver pins in case you want to remove/replace this side saddle later, as the included hex-head screws have to screw in to the threaded aluminum plate portion of the side saddle, while the original pins are held in by friction. My fore end is stock, so I can't speak for fit with a larger, after market fore end. There is adequate clearance between the side saddle and the Picatinny rail on the receiver, but mounting something like an Eotech sight would limit you to loading shells into the side saddle from below. One note is that the large base plate of this side saddle covers the model name and serial number when installed. The forward portion of the side saddle does bow out slightly (the mounting screws are in the rear and center of the side saddle), but it only bows out by about 1/8", and if you're not looking for it, you won't notice it. It's not enough of a gap to catch anything. The shell holders are plastic (only the interior of the base plate is aluminum), and are slotted. Empty carriers can catch gear, but when shells are loaded, they occupy the slots, and make it difficult to catch anything. The holders are robust, but not as strong as metal 360 loops would be. The plastic might get brittle in extreme cold, but this hasn't been a problem for me at New Mexico temperatures. If you're going to be hunting in cold weather and whacking the receiver into trees and fence posts, you might want the Mesa Tactical product instead. For home defense, carrying extra or specialty rounds (slugs) as I use it, this is a great choice.

This side saddle ammo holder looks great on my Remington 870! It was easy to install. Just take your time and don't over-tighten the screws (if you do you will mess up the gun's action and can also strip out the VERY small treads present on the backing plate.) The item seems solid enough and looks as good as many of the MUCH more expensive ones I have seen. This side saddle should last for quite some time. Oh, and by the way-----don't believe the garbage about it "flying off and hitting you in the face". If you install this correctly, and use a TINY drop of BLUE Locktite this side saddle isn't going any place. Also, you do not need to remove the shell holding plate in order to install it. This is a very needless step and is really not required. As a matter of fact, if you leave it on you will be less likely to over tighten the main mounting screws. Buy it! You will like it.

The design is simple and easy with no real flash or drama. Simply push the 2 supplied screws through the lower received 1 at a time and secure them to the baseplate. Then secure the side saddle to the plate and your off and running . The saddle itself is a polymer of some sort and holds shells super tight , in fact so tight i'm hoping with more use and time it will actually soften up some but for now i'm only inserting my shells aproximately half way into their slots and this is more than sufficient to hold them even when running and gunning . If your using the MAGPUL SGA furniture rest assured your full 6 slot saddle will work , there seemed to be some concern about that but it's a non issue . If however your running some furnitire set specifically some pumps that when cocked rearward cover or overlap the receiver then you may have some issue but they supply an interesting tip for that situation ... remove the necesarry number of shell sleeves to accomodate clearance for the pump . Or you could just order the 4 shell and not worry about it . Ive had mine a couple months now and love it and would suggest that in all likelihood you will as well ! Solid product !!!

This installs extremely easily on an 870. All it takes is taking a small drift or punch tool to easily tap out the two pins on the side of the receiver holding in the trigger group. Place the sidesaddle shell holder on the left side of the receiver, push the included screws in through the right side of the receiver, and screw them in. This can all be done in less than 1 minute. We use these on our duty shotguns at work and have never had a problem with shell retention or damage. That's the sole reason I purchased this over budget models I've seen on Amazon. It's a great item that solidly holds 6 shells with brass up or down. I prefer brass facing down for quicker and easier re-loads. If you're looking for a sidesaddle holder, just spend the extra couple of bucks over the budget models and buy this one. It's well-worth it.

Easy to mount, solid construction and it was delivered well within the promised time. I have heard of people having issues with the pump running into the end of the side saddle once it is mounted, however i have it on my 870 and there is room to spare when the pump if fully back. It looks great on the gun and seems to perform as advertised.

I bought this as an experiment but not only does it fit the Remington 870 but it also fits hats an escort and Scorpio semiauto shotguns

Super easy to install, shell holders appear pretty sturdy. Maybe future a design will include a plate that is slightly shorter as the height is slightly more than the receiver. This would make it perfect! Regardless, I would recommend this product for a TAC 14.
