These paints are among the worlds finest watercolors. Because they offer so many colors and they act in a range of ways, I recommend buying a dot card. It seems expensive but it save making swatches. It’s a fantastic reference to know the staining, granulation or smoothness of texture, opacity, mixing ability, lightfastness etc. I check off which ones I have. You can creat pans from them or use straight out of the tube for a high pigmented fluid application. Some are genuine minerals! I say not Chinese because many of these world class companies are being undercut by cheap products of inferior quality with similar packaging. The consumers are the ones to bear the brunt of this. They buy cheap products they don’t work as well, the good companies have to raise their prices and when the consumer realizes that they can’t get good work from cheap products they find the prices have had to surge. I have watched this over many years. Don’t buy cheap products from countries that don’t value ethical business practices!

I have been an artist for years but I mainly used acrylics. I recently delved head first into water colors and I went super cheap. I have slowly but surely been trying better and better paints. I have developed a love of Daniel Smith Watercolor paints because of how beautiful they are to work with. The way they spread out on the paper and granulize is amazing. Also the way that the the paint colors mix on the page is like they are in a dance. itis amazing. Cheap paints do not do that at all. At 12.50 a tube I have to buy these jokers a tube at a time. But still they are so worth it. Once you get professional paints going back to student grade is a let down and you just never want to do it.

the best aquarelle paints i’ve ever used if you're looking to get the water to work for you, these paints bleed and spread like no other. i got these to try my hand at effects like Nicolas Lopez and if your paint and paper are quality (thick on thick) and you have a proper fine mist sprayer….the effect is incredible (below is a first run)

Lunar Black! Yes please! What a fantastic addition to my Daniel Smith pallet! Granulating and gives a consistent performance! It adds the extra something to my artwork and is excellent for night sky’s and shadows!

I love the way Lunar Black just flows out of the tube. You can get so many variations out of this. Great for what I originally bought it for, which is Sumi-E painting. I’m thinking I can use this in many ways. Urban, city streets, landscape and architecture. And the list goes on.

I'm going to be using this to light/highlight areas on a moon project. From the examples shown for this colour, I'm confidant I'll be able to make it look about as realistic as one can here on earth (with an atmosphere). I was inspired by listening to a book about the Apollo lunar landings and hearing how our atmosphere can change our perception of colours, and how completely different things looked to the Apollo astronauts. Looking forward to putting this colour to canvas.
