in-ear monitors
I am a drummer and currently play in a loud heavy metal band. I also play drums in church and for church functions. I bought this to fabricate my own in-ear monitors to use for live shows and practice. I fabricated the plugs just as the package described(using a water bottle cap between my front teeth to keep my mouth open so the plugs would form correctly) and then put $5 big-lots isolation headphones into my ear canals(not too far, you can't do this wrong or you will hurt yourself permanently) where they would normally fit (while the radians plugs were still wet and pliable). I let them dry for 10 minutes, pulled them out, cut holes where the speakers in the headphones are(it didn't stick to my ears or my headphones), and plugged them into my personal mixer. I practice daily, 1 to 5 hours with these monitors in. They never fall out, the drums sound amazing, and the outside noise is nearly eliminated. I recommend this to all my musician friends as a cheap alternative to going to an ear doctor, getting pro molds made and spending hundreds on a set of headphones that may last as long as the big-lots headphones. This was a great and affordable way to make my own in-ear monitors.I have been using the same plugs now for over a month, I can clean them with rubbing alcohol, my ears don't ache, they are comfortable and like an unnoticeable, awesome addition to my practice routine. I would and have been recommending this to all musicians. I am currently disciplining myself to beat the world records for fastest hands and fastest feet. I'm at 1000 beats per minute with both hands and feet. This is definitely an excellent product to help in my endeavors!!!!I would also like to add that it was my first time doing this, I did one ear at a time and didn't mix the portions until I was ready to put them in each ear. It really does set up in 10 minutes. If I have to do it again, I will use smaller portions for each ear because I was able to make a back up set of plugs with the left overs, but they are a little smaller and probably not as reliable because there's not much material on them. These seem like they will last forever if I take care of them the way that I do now. I can also pull the headphones out of the radians, and replace them if the headphones go bad. Really awesome product!!!After reading some of the other reviews, I would like to add that I am extremely disciplined, I read and follow instructions carefully, and I tend to be a perfectionist or at least very thorough in the things that I do. If you are kind of clumsy, or don't trust your abilities to do this stuff, I wouldn't try to do it without help because you can damage your ears if you do this wrong or push the material too far into your ear canal.-It does say in the directions not to push it into your ear canal. DON'T PUT IT IN YOUR EAR CANAL!!!!!GREAT STUFF!!!!!!!!

many applications
It is great product. It was easy to mix and install. Very comfortable fit when done. I inserted an ear bud in the mix after I put it into my ear. A cheap set of ear buds now sounds great. I recommend getting someone else to insert the ear bud in the ear canal so as to better position the ear bud in the center of the canal. I also used it to fit my blue tooth headset in one ear. It is very comfortable and never falls out any more. Works well without the ear buds for shooting situations with my shot gun. I have yet to try it with a long gun.Paul

Home made Etymotic molds
I tried these a couple times years ago and had disappointing results. After reading a few things and watching videos about "custom" in ear monitors, I am glad I tried these again. I used the kit to make molds for a pair of older Etymotic Research (HF5 I think?) earphones and they came out great. It feels like they have possibly improved the formula. Another important tip for my ear shape was to keep my mouth open during the curing process. That helped a lot. Keep a napkin handy for the inevitable drooling. The HF5 earphones are known to have weak bass response. I get a little less bass than the foam tips and about the same as the triple flange tips. They are more comfortable than either and offer similar or slightly less noise isolation. The foam tips are probably the best for my ears, but they are expensive and hard to take in and out. It also appears the earphones respond better to a headphone amplifier with these "custom" tips.I have the second kit and want to try using it to make tips/molds for a Walkers Game Ears. Giving 4 out of 5 stars because I don't get a perfect seal, which could be my ear shape or technique. But, I would still use foam ear plugs for hearing protection when it was important.

Works As Advertised
I was looking for an option to make molded ear plugs to wear with my half helmet on extended motorcycle rides to cut wind noise. After a lot of research online I settled on these. I was a little concerned with the negative reviews but felt the positive ones outweighed the numbers and of course if it did not work as advertised I could return the remaining product.Well I did not have to be concerned because it worked just like it says it will. I followed the instructions and the plugs came out perfect.Actually, I changed one part of the instructions in that I used what they recommended for one plug (half the material in a package) to create a set of earplugs - there was more than enough material. So for the cost of material for one set of ear plugs I was able to get two sets of ear plugs. Pretty good deal if you ask me.Interesting note: As the material starts to cure it makes a type of crackling noise which you hear quite easily. I was a bit unsure of it initially but just allowed the curing to continue without any issues.I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a custom option for hearing protection.

Shoulda known better:(
After much research I went against my better judgement and ordered this. I had read many, many reviews saying that the stuff never sets up. But I had also read some good reviews so I took a chance. Lesson learned. The instructions state that when properly mixed the putty will begin setting up within 10 minutes..... Well, after over an hour I had it dripping down the side of my head. It took quite awhile to get it all out of my ear. Fortunately it had not oozed into my eardrum. It now has been about 30 hours and the lump of this stuff I took out is still has runny as the minute I put it in.I wanted to return this crap but my 30 day window had expired. Fortunately I had purchased it from eCop! Police Supply and when I emailed them they instantly credited my account. Kudos to a top notch vendor!!! They said they had not had this in inventory very long but there was a date code on the box of July 13, 2011. I don't know if that's a sell by date or expiration date or what. I ordered this on December 27th, 2011.My advice to ANYONE wanting to try this stuff is to mix a small ball of this and set it on a plate and time and watch it. If it does not start curing within the allotted time, DO NOT put it in your ears!! You may not be as fortunate as I was in getting it back out!Again, I absolutely recommend eCop! Police Supply as a stand-up vendor!

Wonderful product. I used daily for over a year. RUNNY REVIEW NOTATION
I commute by way of motorcycle rain or shine. Riding a motorcycle at highway speeds can damage your hearing over time so I always wear protection. After trying the squeeze and sticks and those silicone stuff in your ear kind, both of which worked fine, I tried these. They are amazing and very motorcycle commuter convenient. You just pop them in, helmet up and ride. They have to warm up to seal perfectly allowing you time to walk outside from your office and giving you the ability to still hear people talking. Mine form so perfectly that I cannot hear conversations after they are warm and snug making me feel very protected. Follow the instructions and you will have a very nice pair of custom ear plugs that pop in and out of your ear in no time. I only used half of what came with the package and it was more than enough to form the earplug. Every few weeks, I will scrub them with soap and water with an old toothbrush. They are pretty firm so you dont need the case. Just a ziplock baggy or something. I had to buy new ones after a year only because I lost one.***RUNNY NON SETTING REVIEWS*** The first time I made my plugs, I only used half so I kept the other half around. After I lost a plug, I tried to use this material and it did not set anymore. If yours does not set, you either were sent old material or it was exposed to air. Get a refund and do try again. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. If it is setting correctly, it will sound like rice krispies in your ears. I imagine it is good if you clean your ears daily. I always have done so with q-tips after a shower so my plugs don't ever really get gross but I don't imaging everyone is as fastidious as I am.

Extremely Underwhelmed
I had looked at Radians ear plugs for years when I was DJing, but never pulled the trigger. I ended up working in a Polyvinyl Siloxane manufacturing facility so I experimented making my own version of these, but the formulations we produced are for the dental impression industry. The result was very stiff and not well suited for ear protection. I recently started working in a loud environment so I wanted to try these the correct way.I was immediately familiar with the consistency of both the catalyst and base mixes, and unfortunately, the finished product. I measured out exact ratios to the gram and mixed well. I followed the instructions after giving them a pre-read. Once cured I was immediately underwhelmed by the stiffness. I was expecting something slightly spongier to allow for changes geometry from activities such as talking and eating. Not the case. These required consistent adjustments if you use for any length of time. As a side sleeper, the stiffness is uncomfortable enough I was unable to use them for sleep.Since I can't trust them for high sound levels without adjustment, and can't use them for sleep, I don't really have a use case for these. In short, I was better off with one of many other disposable or reusable options, and I think you would be too.

This Works!
I have tried several earplugs for my MP3 player when I am jogging, but all of them fell out. It was really annoying. Then I read online about the Radians CEP001-Tan custom molded earplugs and it made perfect sense to me. I bought the product, rolled the "putty" substance into two separate equal balls. There are two parts that need to be combined to create a substance that will harden after a short while. I pushed each piece into my ears until they felt quite snug, left them there for about 10 minutes and then slowly prized them out. I then left them for 24 hours to harden. Once hardened I drilled a hole through from one end to the other. One end had a slightly larger hole so my earplugs fitted snugly and then I put them in my ears and whallah! I had perfect earplugs. I went jogging later that day and they worked beautifully. If you have weird ears like me and you have trouble keeping your earplugs in place, this is the answer for you.

good little kit ...
good little kit although it might take more than one attempt to make a good set. I made a set for myself for riding on my motorcycle and one works perfectly, the other probably didn't form right so i get alot of noise in it. Probably no fault of the company, I think I may not have properly filled my ear right while making them. I would like to get another set to try again because I feel that if i get a good seal they are fantastic at keeping excess sound out.update: I tried my original pair again, this time pulling down on the lower part of my ear while inserting them and then giving them a little push to really set them in my ear. I promptly went out on a motorcycle ride and they work wonderfully, no more wind noise while riding! Finally a ride where my ears aren't ringing when i get off the bike. Changed review to 5 stars. Great product.

Kein Schutz für's Gehör
Die angefertigten Ohrstöpsel halten nur wenig Dezibel auf und das Kunststoff ist auch nicht langlebig. Billige Schaumstoff Stöpsel halten deutlich mehr db auf.

Well enough for 2-3 moulds if done right
First try ended with a half-assed ear piece for my work Police radio. Second attempt made for a near-perfect piece; it took effort to get the cable mounted securely and aimed for proper sound transmission. Looks like I should have enough for another mould if I am careful. Much pricier than a basic earpiece, but it fits perfect, and stays put. If I get three out of this pack, it won't be much pricier than buying three cheapies that would have all worn out by now. Will buy again, and will spread work to coworkers who hate one-size-fits-no-one ear pieces.
