ASUS MG278Q 27" QHD 1440p 144Hz 1ms Eye Care G-SYNC Compatible FreeSync Gaming Monitor with Dual HDMI DP DVI

Received this monitor on Oct 1st 2015. So far it is performing very nice. I have an Asus PB278Q IPS 1440p monitor I have used up until now. I was waiting for a good 1440p Freesync 144Hz monitor to come out that included fixes for the ghosting found in early Freesync monitors. Asus has addressed this problem with their Trace Free settings built in at release. I know other makers like BenQ have recently released new revisions of their products to address this issue as well but this monitor has it out of the box. I almost bought the MG279Q IPS Freesync monitor but too many people were complaining about bad panels on that model and having to return them several times to win the lottery and get a good one. I also like having the upper end 144Hz in Freesync where as the MG279Q topped off at 90Hz. I use 2 Asus R290X ROG cards and they will push over 90 FPS very often at 1440p. I'm not sure if the bad panel issue of the MG279Q will be the case with this model or not but the one I received had no issues at all, perfect out of the box. No dead pixels no bad panel quality. I'm very happy with the product quality. Now I have this monitor for gaming and when I need to work with photo editing I can use my PB278Q as my dual monitor with its quality IPS display. As a quick test of Freesync. I setup my 2 monitors to duplicate my display and I ran the AMD Windmill Freesync demo on them. I can very easily see the side by side comparison of Freesync compared to no Freesync. I set the demo so sweep framerates I can watch them go up and down between 45 to 65 FPS and see where my PB278Q is having screen tearing over and over while my new MG278Q stays in perfect sync with a smooth display. I have played a few games where I used to see screen tearing a lot like SWTOR , BF4 and Dragon Age Inquisition, they are now smooth as butter. The onscreen OSD FPS that you can turn on with the monitor also helps a lot with seeing when Freesync is working and when its not for specific games. When it is not working you will see the monitors FPS display stuck at the refresh rate you set the game to. When it is working you can see it scale up and down in sync with your games FPS by also having Fraps on or an in game FPS tool showing your actual game fps. In conclusion I am very happy with this monitor, it has taken some getting used to looking at a TN display again. This is the best looking TN display I have owned, but the IPS display definitely looks better when just browsing the internet and doing things on the desktop. I bought this for gaming through and in games you can't really tell the difference between the TN and IPS as far as how the picture looks. The 1ms GTG pixel refresh rate and Freesync from 40Hz-144Hz totally makes up for not having the IPS screen while gaming. By keeping my PB278Q I have the best of both worlds. Update: Recent driver improvements from AMD have added more Freesync support for DX9,DX10 now to include DX11 and DX12. I can verify the support now for Freesync is pretty good running Crossfire as well. I recently upgraded to 2x Fury X Cards which work great in Crossfire and Freesync now with latest driver releases.

What can I say about this monitor. Its expensive, especially for a monitor using a TN panel that was released four years ago. You may also be distracted by the slightly off color (mostly noticeable on white/light backgrounds) when coming from a more color correct IPS monitor. However, these are the only complaints I have of this monitor and, in the end, its pros much out way its cons. First off, gaming on this monitor is amazing. Selecting a monitor with 144hz and Freesync was the best decision I've ever made for improving my gaming experience. Being able to utilize extra FPS my new GPU provided made a huge difference to the fluidity and clarity of movement in games. The 1440p resolution gives a much crisper quality picture and the increased screen real estate is great when I'm working on music or need multiple browsers open. Lastly but not least, the TN panel allows for a 1ms response time, reducing motion blur and ghosting to imperceptible levels. I was originally put off by the color difference created by the TN panel, so I decided to order an IPS gaming monitor to see if it was really that big of a deal. While the IPS monitor's colors were more vibrant and accurate, the motion blur caused by the increased response time was unbearable. So while the games colors looked more accurate, the visual quality and gaming experienced was ruined. I returned it the next day and decided to stick it out with the Asus, and it was definitely the best choice I have now been using this monitor for about a month and after tweaking the "Racing Mode" screen settings in the OSD and downloading a color calibration file from Tftcentral (google it), the colors do not bother me anymore and actually look great for a TN panel. I now have the monitor mounted on an aftermarket VESA mount but the stand that came with the monitor was well built, sturdy and very easy to adjust. I also liked the design, which gave hints of a gaming computer in its design but kept it simple enough to be used in any situation. I highly recommend this monitor to anyone looking for a high quality gaming monitor. I especially recommend it to people who are sensitive to motion blur and ghosting effects. If all you want to do is photo/video editing, watching videos, browsing the web or just really need a monitor that display colors accurately, then you will not need nor want this monitor. Everyone else will find this monitor to be just what they are looking for.

Ive wanted a 144 hz monitor but wanted to wait until this came out. I have a Radeon 295x2 that encourages freesync use, and this monitor delivers. Enabling freesync was easy and you notice it almost right away. MGSV phantom pain runs noticably smoother with the freesync, as do other games. The freesync calibrates nicely with games like star citizen, and you can notice it being smoother than my old 60 hz and no freesync (i still use this monitor in a dual setup, with no problems. I tested 2k resolution, and it was beautiful. No dead pixels. Beautiful, brighter colors compared to my economic monitor. Very easy set up and the cord holder behind the monitor is great too. The only thing i noticed is that some games dont like running 2k with freesync, like MGSV; the frame rate drops to stupid low levels, like 10 to 20, when you try to play it full screen on the 2k monitor. Going to windowed mode -- where it operates at 1920 -- makes it behave just fine though. However other games such as Diablo 3 and Star Citizen had no problems reconfiguring on load for the monitors max resolution. I just want to make buyers beware about 2k: you will need a serious rig if you want to play games like Star Citizen (which uses crysis 3) at max settings for anything beyond one monitor. Thanks to freesync at 144 hz, SC is very playable and scales nicely, but you definitely notice a fps drop when playing 2k. This is just with one of these monitors and a single 295x2, with a smaller 60hz monitor sitting idle (nothing was running) while playing on one screen. But playing SC at standard resolution and 144hz freesync is AMAZING. I would highly recommend this monitor to anyone wanting to usee freesync at 144 hz.

Regardless of whether you have AMD or Nvidia (though AMD benefits the most out of this), this is a great monitor to have considering the price and specs. A 27" TN panel that supports 144Hz at 1440p with DisplayPort 1.2, TWO HDMI ports, and a Dual-Link DVI, as well as a built-in USB 3.0 hub with two ports easily makes this monitor a great utility monitor for gamers that do everything at their desk and only need or can only have one monitor. The OSD is pretty standard, with some nifty little features from Asus. My only gripe with the OSD is that the controls are on the side, which makes sense for a single monitor user, however since I have a multi-monitor setup and the MG278Q is in the center, it gets a little annoying try to reach the controls whenever I need to change my input from DisplayPort to HDMI-1. Wish they were still on the back but bottom, or a easier to access input change. In terms of performance, it's high quality when response time is priority. The jump from a 60Hz to 144Hz was night and day, as well as the bump from 1080p to 1440p making games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive so much better to play. One disclaimer, is that I have FreeSync disabled since I prefer the running at 144Hz, however for the games that I don't care about having the higher frequency for, I'll turn it on and enjoy the tear-free experience. The stand is nice and sturdy, and it has a fairly small footprint on the desktop while being able to use the base's surface if needed. Easy to remove the monitor from stand if you prefer using the VESA mount, and even more bonus points for including screws pre-installed in the VESA holes. Bezel is fairly slim, but not as thin as the ROG Swift PG279Q. Do love the fact that the top of the monitor is flat and the back is flat near the top for easier webcam mounting, unlike my Asus VH238H that has a curved top. Color is pretty good on the sRGB profile. Wouldn't say it's accurate, due to the fact that I've yet to use an IPS monitor and don't have any proper tools to gauge the color accuracy, however for general gaming and media consumption, the colors are accurate enough with very little noticeable bias towards warm or cool temperatures. Would I buy another MG278Q or two for a replacement or triple monitor setup? Possibly. Would I still consider it, even if I was running an Nvidia card instead of my R9 290X? Definitely if I was on a budget. Do I regret getting the MG278Q instead of the ROG Swift PG279Q since I know I'm going to go Nvidia on my next upgrade? Not at all, especially since this would still be an excellent auxiliary monitor.

I am not sure why some people are giving this monitor bad reviews but I just got it and out of the box it looks amazing. I have an GTX 1080ti Duke 11GB and Nvidia automatically switched to Gsync in Nvidia Control Panel. It is running at 144MHZ. Even though it comes with a cable, I bought a 6ft DP 1.2 cable gold plated. The gaming picture is amazing and I have not had to adjust anything. I have no problems with it whatsoever. Now, I did just get it so I will keep my fingers crossed but for the current price of $427, you can't beat it. This was part of a few upgrades I bought and my first true gaming monitor.... This purchase was entirely worth it. This was my first monitor at this refresh rate and resolution.... I almost cried when I first got it hooked up. Things I thought looked good before now looked completely jaw dropping. I will go back and replay a few games JUST to see them on this monitor. Other than gaming I do a lot of digital art. This is amazing or that as well. The refresh rate lets me see my cursor better as I draw and paint with the Wacom Intous tablet. The colors are so bright and vivid. Most times if I'm painting something random I just set it my canvas size to 2560 x 1440 and full screen it. Going from a 23in pleb LED monitor to THIS beast was a move I needed to make. The base has a nice height adjustment range for me and is nice and heavy. Through a couple fits of "OH COME ON HOW THE HELL DID THAT HIT ME!?" rage the monitor has not budged on my stand.

pros: haven't found any dead pixels. light bleed around the edges is not bad imho. colors look better than my old asus panel (also a TN panel). stand is very nice. usb ports on the back are nice. cons: price.....these things go for $550? wtf?! price fluctuations....$550 one day and $399 the next. heavy-duty matte coating sucks idk why it's sooo bad....you can see a distortion in the picture if you look close....it basically looks like a dirty piece of plastic slapped on your screen. other thoughts: the 144hz is nice and smooth and adaptive sync seems to work fine. however the heavy matte coating is as annoying as driving with a dirty windshield. so I may return it and try out the acer version as I've read it's not as bad but idk. overall it's a nice monitor but I feel like it's mostly just old tech they want a premium price for...the only new thing is the freesync....

This is a great monitor, I bought it on sale and this is a great gaming monitor. This has to be one of the best values for an IPS 1440 144 hz monitor, and it’s 27” inches. It’s an awesome monitor, a friend is probably going to get one now that he’s seen it when he gets a new graphics card. It’s IPS so you get great colors and darkness. It’s G sync compatible and I had no issues using G sync with my Nvidia 2080 graphics card. I’m not sure if it’s actually 1 ms input time, I don’t notice any stuttering/motion blur and the screen is extremely responsive when moving quickly.

An amazing TN panel with commendable colours. So far I am enjoying this monitor. Didn't get any dead pixels on screen it is soo much more smoother than any 60hz monitor. The reason I got a bigger screen is games like Pubg where everything appears soo tiny this monitor really blows it up and makes it clear where everyone is. Not only that games like counter strike are clearer and smoother more pixels to hit that HS on. Will be writing more about this monitor soon. Sill have to enjoy a few movies just to see how this panel holds up. Pros: Small bezels Quick Response Amazing build quality Tilt, rasing and lowering the monitor is feather touch :) Joystick behind the monitor is really intuitive. For controlling the functions. Lots of display options Cons: Price as we all know the huge duty that is levied on imported monitor this is the same with this one. USB 3.0 on the sides would be more accessible currently their only in the back

The monitor is of high quality. The picture quality (1440p) is simply stunning. The PC METRO FPS gaming series, PREY, SOMA, Left 4 Dead 2, RAGE, Mad Max etc., all look simply stunning at 1440p 144Hz. I love the ASUS quality. But I do have an issue listed below. CONS: I have 2 issues about this monitor. And debating whether to return it for another one or just stick to this one. Advice from anybody would be appreaciated please. CON #1 - (SOLVED) Screen flickers like crazy at 144Hz, whether I have FreeSync enabled or not. When I reduce to 120Hz, flickering is greatly minimized. But still occers. 100Hz completely eliminates flickering. Here is what I did, completely Un-Installed the AMD Radeon drivers, restarted, installed the newest radeon drivers, restart. Flickering was reduced somewhat. But still present at 144Hz. Then I switched the Display Port v1.2 from my GPU's input 1 and plugged it into input 2. Restarted the PC once again, at 144Hz the monitor was about 95% flicker free. I suppose the combination fixed the flicker issues. Though something like this should never happen regardless. CON #1 UPDATE: Screen still flickers here and there. Not all that annoying. Usually a PC restart eliminates the flickering. Though ultimately, I am hoping a AMD resovles this with a driver update. CON #2 - This is a major CON, and I am not very happy about this one. Bottom left, but toward the centre of the screen, there's a pixel that is brighter than the actual screen. But it's ONLY visible when you have a white background. You cannot see this in dark scenes at all. This is somewhat of an annoyance because of the hefty price tag I paid for this Gaming Monitor. My question is should I have the monitor replaced? It's not entirely bothersome, when PC Gaming or watching HD movies via Netflix for example, but it's still there, and quite noticeable in white scenes. Like for example, using Excel and Word. It looks like there's a light behind you flashing on the screen for example. CON #2 UPDATE: Contacted Amazon, and they will send me a Brand New Monitor once they are in stock with RMA instructions. Once again, Thank You Amazon for your superior customer service. Now just waiting for them to be in stock... Quastion: Does anybody know the best way to Calibrate Gaming Monitors? Ty

Expected better for the price. Bought this since no other brand was is in stock ( benq / AOC). Fair amount of backlight bleed and very bad viewing angles which are further exaggerated by the 27 inch screen so close to your face. Freesync works fine. Learnt to ignore the backlight bleed by keeping the lights on in the room. You would not notice it during gameplay or bright content. Plenty bright for a monitor. Nice features like fps counter, quick menus and freesync help ease the pain of blowing 40k on this monitor Images do exaggerate the light blee
